Tunnels is a Ballpark Modification first seen in the Season 20 Latesiesta, originally as a Ballpark Renovation, but was immediately Ratified into Non-Physical Law because of the Ratification Decree.
Tunnels was nullified by Black Hole (Black Hole) on Season β24, Day 28.
Effects
Under the Tunnels Rule, pitchers could enter the Tunnels and approach a player on the opposite team with an Item in order to steal the Item for themselves. The player will only attempt the steal if they either a) do not have an Item, or b) the Item is better than their current Item. The steal chance is not 100% effective. There is a chance that the item steal will fail, and in that scenario, the attempted thief will flee Elsewhere.
Pitchers could also use Tunnels in order to steal runs from the Opposing team. They could only steal one run per attempt.
Players with the Heist Expert modification (list) would enter the Tunnels and attempt to steal items or runs more often, though their chance of success was not improved by the modification.
History
Instant Ratification
When Tunnels first appeared as a Renovation option in Season 20, 19 of the 24 Blaseball Teams built the Renovation, causing it to be instantly ratified across the League. It was the third Ballpark Renovation to do so, the first two being Hotel Motel and Turntables.
All Recorded Thefts
Notable Thefts
The Fifth Base
Normally, The Fifth Base was only attainable by batters, being picked up and placed down by different batters on different teams as they roamed around. But due to Tunnels, the item was now able to be stolen by pitchers. Baldwin Breadwinner of the Dallas Steaks stole The Fifth Base from Jaxon Buckley on Season β22 Day 58. This now meant that unless the pitcher was reverbed into the lineup, the Fifth Base could no longer be placed down inside a stadium, and could only be traded between pitchers via Tunnels.
Chorby's Soul
The Chorby Soul Replicas came with the item Chorby's Soul. This item came with 154 eDense elements, giving the replicas essentially the same amount of Soul as the original Chorby Soul. On Season β21 Day 81, Flowers pitcher Gloria Bugsnax used Tunnels in order to steal Chorby's Soul II from Season 21's Chorby Soul IV. This was notable as it caused the Flowers to suddenly sink on the Depth chart.
With a Chorby's Soul no longer on a replica, and therefore targetable by Wills, the Atlantis Georgias used the Item Move Will in the Season β21 Elections in order to give Chorby's Soul II to Clove Ji-Eun. Due to the Georgias' Light-Handed Modification, the Georgias remained at the top of the Depth chart.
Nullification
On Season β24 Day 28, the first instance of Black Hole (Black Hole) was seen, as Houston Spies player Commissioner Vapor activated the weather, causing the nullification of Tunnels.
