This page is about the playtests. For the Election item, see Circuits.

The Short Circuits were a series of seasons run after the Expansion Era. Each circuit lasted two weeks, and experimented with different gameplay types and mechanics.

The teams in the Short Circuits shared the appearance of the teams  Under Review in the main timeline but had no team modifications, and a new set of players unique to that circuit.

The Microphone

Throughout the Second Grand Siesta, the Microphone repeatedly came on and offline alongside posting “TUNING”[1], often followed by a worried reaction from Parker MacMillan IIIII on the official blaseball twitter account. It was eventually revealed that the Microphone was tuning into different realities to present to the Fans with Short Circuits, in which the Microphone would only be active for two weeks before once again shorting out, and leaving that universe behind.

Several days before the Short Circuit started, on October 27th, the following emergency alert appeared:

EMERGENCY ALERT
GAMMA BURST DETECTED

The day before the Short Circuit was due to start, on October 31st, the following message appeared and the new teams became visible on the site:

Finally, just before games started on Day 1 of the new circuit, Parker MacMillan IIIII gave the following message on the site, using the Microphone to repeat his words.

Names of Circuits

The standard naming conventions for the short Circuits is inconsistent, with some Fans referring to the first Short Circuit feed that could be viewed as "Gamma 1" and others referring to the first Short Circuit that Fans could participate as Gamma 1. Fans from the Society for Internet Blaseball Research point out that technically the first viewable circuit is actually Gamma 8.

This article uses "Gamma 1" to refer to the first viewable circuit.

Gamma 1

Season 1

The first Gamma Circuit was not viewable by Fans on the site and could only be found by checking the Feed.

The Tokyo Lift and Miami Dale are the only teams whose Charge target's name is unknown, due to pitchers rarely appearing in the Feed.

Gamma 2

See the main article on this topic: Gamma 2

New Mechanics

Gamma 2 introduced a mechanic of "combo betting" where Fans were able to bet on multiple games at once, with an increased payout if they got all of them right, and no payout if any of their bets were wrong. They were also able to bet up to twelve games in advance. If the odds changed for a game that had already been bet on via player incinerations or Feedback, any bets already placed would be locked in at their previous odds, and new bets would take the new information into account.

As of Season 2 of Gamma 2, Fans were able to make a bet on the team that would win the Internet Series at the end of the season. The earlier in a season a Fan locked their bets in, the better the payout on that bet. This caused unexpected issues when the payout for the championship bet occurred, as due to an error, payouts were calculated incorrectly. If a Fan had 100 votes, and was due a 100 vote championship payout, rather than having 200 votes total, they were instead left with 100,100 votes. This was corrected in later Circuits.

See the main article on this topic: Gamma 3

New Mechanics

Gamma 3 introduced a longer season, taking place over 166 days rather than the previous standard of 99 Days. This caused the season to be paced much differently than previous seasons - taking place over two weeks rather than the usual single week seasons. Each team still played 99 games in a regular season however, and teams would often skip days, with a handful of days in the season having no games scheduled at all.

Gamma 3 also saw the introduction of a Tutorial, hosted by A Shelled One.

New Mechanics

Gamma 4 continued the 4 week season, while introducing exhibition games, the Midseason Fiesta, and title matches. Exhibition games were played every 4th game during the first half of the season under Glitter weather, and were the only game to happen on this day.

The Midseason Fiesta was a bracket in which the lowest scoring teams in each division played each other, to try and win the Title Belt. Due to a sim bug, on day 115, teams were scheduled to play two games at once, leading to the Crabs/Gamma 4 playing the Moist Talkers, and the Pies playing the Jazz Hands in two games simultaneously. The schedule then had even further issues, scheduling the Garages, as well as the Millennials, to play against themselves on day 116. However, after a delay in games of several hours, this was cancelled.

Title matches arose following the cancellation of the Midseason Fiesta, and took place between a team which currently held a Title Belt and another random team. The winner of these title matches usually[2] received the Title Belt.

Additionally, this season changed the way that elections were held, with an election taking place every 24 hours.
