Umpires are entities charged with the enforcement of the rules of Blaseball. This refers both to the abstract and nameless umpires that Blaseball teams interact with inside of games, as well as the named umpires who speak to all Blaseball fans via the internet.

Umpires observe games to ensure appropriate play and splortsmanship, and relay the word of the Blaseball Gods to the rest of the League.

Their secondary purpose is to declare a Siesta, during which the games will not be viewable, and improvements (such as the addition of bigger machines) can be made.

The origin and species of Umpires are unknown.

Named Umpires

Named umpires are an informal designation for league officials who communicate with Blaseball fans via the internet, and are present during the events of every season. These umpires will occasionally declare a Siesta, during which the games will not be viewable and improvements (such as the addition of bigger machines) can be made. The named umpires are occasionally found speaking with fans in the Blaseball Discord.

Named umpires in the active category are characters representing one of Blaseball's game designers at The Game Band. Raúl, a fictional character whose presence was brought up as a response to Raúl Leal's use of the Iffey Jr. during Season β9, was the first non-developer named umpire.

• Umpire Otis (ump_otis) - An original Umpire, active since the beginning of Blaseball discord, July 13, 2020.
• Umpire Steel (ump_steel) - Replaced ump_husky September 25, 2020. Became ump_classic sometime during the Grand Grand Siesta of 2021-2022
• Umpire Cake (ump_cake) - Appeared December 8, 2020.
• Umpire Tortilla (ump_tortilla) - Appeared December 8, 2020. Dormant between February 28, 2021 to June 24 2021. Speaks mostly in emoji
• Umpire Trash (ump_trash) - Appeared June 19, 2021. Has been replaced twice but now active again.
• Umpire Doll (ump_doll) - Appeared July 21, 2021. Only spoke that week, and only in emoticons.
• Umpire UpTheJam (ump_upthejam) - Appeared July 26, 2021
• Umpire Sunman (ALTERNATE) (ump_sunman ALTERNATE) - replaced Sun2man on July 28, 2021.
• Umpire Possum (ump_possum) - Appeared September 15, 2021. Highly active.
• Umpire Iron (ump_iron) - Appeared December 8, 2021. Only spoke on that date, and only in emoji.
• Umpire Teenth (ump_teenth) - Exists but has not spoken as of January 22, 2022.
• Umpire Moon (ump_moon) - First mentioned by other users October 26, 2022 and mentions "stealth umps" - notably not a part of the Slugger or Groundskeeper groups on Discord as previous Umps have been.
• Umpire Bug (ump_bug) - seems to have been activated as an Ump on October 26,2022. Like Moon, is not a part of Slugger or Groundskeeper groups and therefore is "stealth" in the Discord userlist.
• Umpire Notes (ump_notes) - activated as an Ump on October 26,2022. Stealth Ump. Previously SLUGGER/KEEPER NOTES
• Umpire Classic (ump_classic) - This is Ump Steel, was renamed sometime during the Grand Grand Siesta of 2021-2022. Did not speak so this was not detected.
• Umpire Blood (ump_blood) - Appeared October 28th, 2022. Has given cryptic hints / commentary about the Falls. Calls Parker MacMillan (the original) "the ruiner."

• Umpire Husky (ump_husky) - Deceased as of September 25, 2020. Season 8, Day 94, backfire due to Iffy Jr. Was an original Umpire of Blaseball and opened the rules channel.
• Umpire Raúl - Deceased as of October 11, 2020. Season 9 Elections. The Dale won the New Kid blessing, backfiring due to Iffy Jr.
• Umpire Sunman (ump_admin_pope_sunman) - Banned from the Discord as of December 4, 2020
• Umpire Dog - Deceased as of March 8, 2021. Season 13, Day 1, backfire due to Fireproof Mummy Melcon. Supposedly had huge Ego according to ump_trash2.
• Umpire Sun2man (ump_sun2man) - Deceased as of May 17, 2021. Season 19, Day 6, backfire due to Fireproof Paula Turnip.
• Umpire Trash (ump_trash) - Deceased in June, 2021 but ressurected (??) after July 2021. Is either Umpire Unknown 3, 4, 5, 7, or 8.
• Umpire Ravioli (ump_ravioli) - Appeared December 8, 2020. Disappeared after June 24, 2021.. Likely to be Umpire Unknown 3, 4, 5, 7, or 8.
• Umpire Unknown (name not given) - Deceased as of June 18, 2021. Season 20, Day 99, backfire due to Fireproof Mooney Doctor II. This mod came from an item which had only been repaired 21 days beforehand.
• Umpire Unknown 2 (name not given) - Deceased as of June 24, 2021. Season 21, Day 76, backfire due to Fireproof Theo King.
• Umpire Unknown 3 (name not given) - Deceased as of June 24, 2021. Season 21, Day 82, backfire due to Unstable Fireproof Chorby Soul V.

Generic Umpires

Generic umpires are an informal designation for umpires who are present in every single match of Blaseball, arbitrating rules and adjudicating the game. Generic umpires have not done anything of historical note, but their presence in every match seems to be necessary; either by rulebook or by divine law.

Rogue Umpires

Upon the Opening of the Forbidden Book at the end of Season β1, umpires were described as having their "eyes turn white." From this point forward, some games featured a rogue umpire who has the ability to incinerate a Blaseball player at will. It is believed that the practice is not endorsed by Internet League Blaseball, although no umpires have ever been publicly criticized or punished by the League for harming players.

It has been observed that all incinerations (and subsequently, all rogue umpires) only appear during Solar Eclipse weather. After the ILB Semi-Centennial and during Season 24, Rogue Umpires had the ability to also incinerate entire teams during Supernova Eclipse weather.

A group of 4 Umpires that appeared after the Season 1 elections and the re-opening of the Forbidden Book. Each appears to correspond to a different division in the League. It was revealed during Season 2 that the crew of Umpires consists of the Bard Umpire, Knight Umpire, Mage Umpire, and Rogue Umpire. The crew of Umpires appeared to review play and herald a Tournament of Champions to choose a new Ace to lead the League.
