Inky Rutledge was a lineup player for the Yellowstone Magic, and was with the team from Fall Ball until being incinerated on Season 2, Day 43. Rutledge had previously played for the Tokyo Lift and Charleston Shoe Thieves.

Official League Records

Rutledge joined the ILB as a pitcher for the Yellowstone Magic with the Return of Blaseball.

During the Season β5 elections, Rutledge's batting and defense fell as a part of the Charleston Shoe Thieves' Bad Neighbors blessing.

On Season β7, Day 7, in a game against the Hawai'i Fridays, Rutledge pitched the first recorded no-hitter in ILB history, baffling literally everyone and earning the 2-blood blagonball. The same season, on Day 37, Rutledge pitched the second recorded no-hitter ever in ILB history. This did not make anyone less baffled.

After the end of Season 7, the Blagonball became Rutledge's item, possibly in response to fan demand to "Let Inky pitch the Blagonball (We would like to see it)."

During the Coffee Cup, Rutledge played for the Americano Water Works as a pitcher.

During the Season β15 elections, Rutledge's pitching increased from 3.2 → 5 and defense decreased 2.9 → 2.6 as a result of the Magic's Transfuse will.

On Season β17, Day 79, Rutledge was exchanged to the Charleston Shoe Thieves due to Feedback. Rutledge was replaced by Jaylen Hotdogfingers.

Rutledge was traded to the Tokyo Lift in exchange for Alejandro Leaf during the Season β17 elections via the Lift's Equivalent Exchange will.

Rutledge was traded to the Charleston Shoe Thieves in exchange for Terrell Bradley during the Season β21 elections via the Shoe Thieves' Equivalent Exchange will.

On Season β22, Day 22, Rutledge retreated to the Shoe Thieves' Shadows in exchange for Blood Hamburger as a result of Choux Stadium's Fax Machine. On Day 26, Rutledge rejoined the Shoe Thieves' pitching rotation in exchange for Hamburger via the Fax Machine. On Day 34, Rutledge retreated to the Shadows again in exchange for Hamburger via the Fax Machine.

On Season β23, Day 26, Rutledge joined the Shoe Thieves' pitching rotation in exchange for Blood Hamburger as a result of the Choux Stadium's Fax Machine.

Over the course of Season β24, Rutledge entered and exited the Shoe Thieves' Shadows two times as a result of Choux Stadium Fax Machine events, ending the Season on the pitching rotation.

During the October 28, 2022 Fall Ball, Rutledge fell to the Yellowstone Magic.

Rutledge gained 1 Star of Defense and Running in the Season 1 elections as a result of the Magic's Wind Sprints blessing.

On Season 2, Day 43, Rutledge was incinerated and replaced by Duncan Phantom.

Time on the Magic

Rutledge ended up in beautiful landlocked Yellowstone when a summoning circle created by Bevan the Wise accidentally summoned 333 gallons of the Sea of Japan, instead of 3 orders of takoyaki from Japan Ocean Sushi (Wise’s favorite sushi joint in Tacoma).

In those 333 gallons was a very confused giant Pacific octopus. Feeling just awful for stranding her in beautiful landlocked Yellowstone, Wise used the remaining energy from the circle to summon a sturdy humanoid body for the octopus and was struck with how well adapted an 8-armed pitcher would be for Yellowstone’s blaseball team.

The newly formed, very handsome octopus accepted Wise’s offer to join the team, named herself Inky (after her love of writing letters in pen), and the rest is history. Only the players of the Yellowstone Magic were aware that she was an octopus, as she tends to use camouflage spells to appear as a normal human to those outside of her close family and friends.

Transfer to the Thieves

After much of the Magic was lost to redactions, Rutledge spotted former teammate Oscar Dollie on the Shoe Thieves rotation and jumped at the chance to move to Charleston. She later credited this move as a desire both to ask her longtime buddy what had happened, and hopefully commit some lighthearted crime and pranks together. While there she made many new friends, planned a grand heist with Dollie, and learned to effectively use all eight of her perfectly human arms to steal enough shoes to wear on each of her many limbs.

Time on the Lift

At the end of an enormously successful stint into shoe thievery, Rutledge was ready to go home for the siesta: not to beloved Yellowstone, but to the Sea of Japan, to see the waters she grew grew up in for the first time in decades. While there, she visited and fell in love with Tokyo, and signed up to join the city’s blaseball team on the spot.

There, she found herself unexpectedly thrust into a position of leadership alongside newly minted Lift captains Yusef Fenestrate and Gerund Pantheocide due to her ample expertise after seventeen seasons of pitching. The team was delighted both by her tendencies toward silly pranks and her deep insights into the splort and she quickly became some of the hearts of the team (three to be precise: Rutledge, as a normal human octopus, has a couple to spare). As she prefers to hydrate her beautiful human skin every few hours, the Lift installed a system of transparent aquatic tubes throughout the Legscraper. The pipes allow Rutledge to jump in the water from any room and zip around in comfort, reportedly reaching speeds of up to 604 miles per hour, according to the astonished and slightly envious real-life speedrunner Engine Eberhardt. Additionally, Rutledge, like all octopuses that are actually human people, discovered her extreme strength to be a boon in powerlifting and quickly took to long sessions of honing her athletic prowess while working as a spotter at the community gym.

• Inky Rutledge is notable among fans for her steadfast refusal to use a blaseball glove on more than one of her many arms and her entirely human demeanor.
• Rutledge loves the song Oye Como Va by Santana.
• Rutledge carries around a gong that she uses uses all 8 hands and arms to sound before each game. While incredibly hard to play a song with many instruments using a gong, the crowds all unanimously agree that it does, indeed, sound like Oye Como Va.
• Reports from multiple sources reveal that Rutledge is indeed shaped like a friend and gives the best hugs. This has earned her the nickname “cuddlefish” (no relation to the cuttlefish of the Sepiida order, as Rutledge is a human, not a cephalopod).
• No matter her current whereabouts, Rutledge always makes sure to write letters to all her friends on other teams.
• Although she is aware that there is no danger to revealing her true octopus form, Rutledge continues to enjoy disguising herself out of a sense of good-natured trickery.
