Career with the Seattle Garages

Little is known of Durham Spaceman's origin, and their team-mates are reluctant to speculate. When they showed up to the Garages clubhouse, standing large and imposing in their massive space suit, the team had assumed it was a prank, or perhaps an early, elaborate Halloween costume. But when asked, they said it was necessary for their survival. As such, no one has seen what lies beneath. Garages member Nolanestophia Patterson has stated that when hugging Spaceman, she can hear faint sounds of soft static coming from within.

One of Spaceman's most striking features is their helmet. The visor is not polarized, as would be expected of a standard spacesuit. Instead, looking into Spaceman's visor often offers nothing but a visage of inky blackness of limitless extent. This has been known to change at random, with distinct shapes and even detailed moving images appearing within. It seems that Spaceman has at least some control over this, as while pitching, a swirl of vibrant, eye catching patterns will appear from within the helmet, disorienting anyone caught in Spaceman's "gaze".

For an incomplete list of visual phenomena related to Spaceman's helmet, see Reported Helmet Sightings.

Spaceman is either mute, has taken a vow of silence, or otherwise opts out of verbal communication. Instead, they prefer to communicate through various sign languages, though will also use a text to speech for those hard of sight. However, on some occasions when asked a complex question, a die will appear within their helmet with a cryptic answer displayed. The message shown is near impossible to interpret through any conventional logic.

Spaceman is adept in all forms of gestural communication, from jazz hands to the Gallic shrug. Opposing teams have been reported using different call signs when Spaceman is pitching, as they are very quick to learn each team's hand gestures.

Spaceman refers to themselves in plural forms, using "we" and "us". It is unclear what kinds of multitudes Spaceman contains, as when asked for more details, Spaceman responds "We are simply Us."

Music

Spaceman has an affinity for the keytar and the theremin. They have been seen collaborating with Oliver "Oll-E" Notarobot on a project the two remain cagey about. They have also recently taken up VJing, using their helmet to project videos the likes of which no one has ever seen during Garage sets.

Reported Helmet Sightings

Spaceman's helmet seems to contain a vast infinite void where near anything can appear. The following is an incomplete list of reported sightings:

  • A Betta fish who responds to the name "Herbert"
  • Retro commercials for products that never existed
  • two nebulae colliding, one billion years in the future
  • an MS-DOS command line
