History

Alx Keming is an older person of Chinese heritage. Alx uses ve / vis / vir / virs pronouns exclusively (note: this neopronoun only, no they/them). Alx is mute, and signs ASL, CSL and Auslan. Ve is a kind soul with a warm, inviting smile.

Alx is a seeker of knowledge, in books and in exploration. Ve has worked in various educational institutions in the past. Ve took a break from this to see where knowledge would take vis.

While traveling, ve was swept Elsewhere. Lost in this unknown place for an unknown amount of time, ve took the opportunity to study and explore. One day, Alx came across a lost Shoe Thief, Hotbox Sato (a being composed of smoke who forms into the shape of a person). Hotbox, who had been lost for days, desperately wanted to return to its team. Alx took pity, and decided to help Hotbox return home. The two journeyed long, bonding as they went, and eventually found the way to a Charleston. It was a joyful reunion. The team asked Alx to please stay a day and watch a game of Blaseball. Alx agreed. At that game, tragedy struck. Hotbox Sato, who had fought so hard to return to its team, was set aflame by a rogue umpire. Alx saw the loss on the faces of Hotbox’s teammates, especially Snyder Briggs. Alx was hit with the overwhelming feeling that this is where ve is supposed to be. As Alx decided to join the team, ve suddenly found verself at the plate, dressed in a Shoe Thief uniform.

Alx does not know how long ve were in the Elsewhere. It is suspected that Alx’s name was different before the Elsewhere, but this cannot be confirmed. There is part of Alx that misses the Elsewhere and the mysteries within it. Ve gathers all the research ve can-- anything from old tomes to in person accounts, and even tangentially-related, surreal documentaries (one was simply that of a lizard sitting on a rock for hours, which Velasquez Alstott found so boring that she was reduced to tears).

Alx finds the splort of Blaseball immensely fascinating, having studied the ancient, historical records at great length. Ve is just pleased as punch to get to play with these historical re-enactors.

Alx has become something of a grandparent figure to Velasquez Alstott. Alx reads to Vela nearly every night, and it is not uncommon to find Alx sitting quietly as Vela snoozes, head on Alx’s arm.

Alx and Fitzgerald Wanderlust get along swimmingly. Both having a passion for history, they will often be found engaged in lengthy conversations long into the night. They discuss their shared past and research into the occult, namely the Elsewhere, the Nature of Blaseball, and the Entities that govern it. They also both have a keen interest in time travel.

Alx saw Tillman Henderson’s trickster/heel antics and said to verself “this is my new grandkid, time to nurture.” After some resistance, Alx convinced Tillman to let vis help him practice pitching. Tillman grumbles and puts on a show that he doesn’t enjoy it, but never refuses and is always on time.

Alx and Snyder Briggs have a complicated relationship. On the one hand, there is appreciation for Alx being there for Hotbox and bringing it home. On the other hand, Hotbox was incinerated shortly after the return. Bitter over these feelings, Snyder does their best to avoid Alx. Alx understands, and feels terrible about Snyder’s loss. Ve does what ve can, leaving Snyder gifts such as documentaries about fire.
