Appearance

Hiroto Cerna is a Rosy Maple Mothperson. Typical of that species, ze has pink and yellow coloration, a mane of pink fluff around zir neck, and antenna with yellow fluff. Like many other silk moths, Cerna has no mouth, but ze is able to experience some of the sensation of taste using zir antenna. Cerna is almost never seen without zir signature biker jacket, recognizable due to various patches from zir travels across the world. Since joining the Flowers, Cerna has added several flower patches to zir jacket.

After the blooming of the Blood Alstroemeria at the end of Season 8, Hiroto’s wings mutated and became alstroemeria petals with a pink and yellow coloration. While the change is mostly aesthetic, it took Cerna a few days to get used to flying with zir new wings. Since then, the moth has reported an overall positive attitude towards the change, happy not to have to deal with the dust from zir natural wings, and pleased that zir partners have found zir new wings to be aesthetically pleasing.

History

Hiroto "Wicked" Cerna was flying over the Boston Garden when ze noticed a bright light from the Umpire’s fire. While the rest of the Boston Flowers were quite distraught and distracted in their efforts to save Caligula Lotus from being fully incinerated, someone in the crowd shouted "Does anyone here know how to play blaseball?" Cerna had been travelling across the country on zir motorcycle, and had picked up some skills playing dangerous and highly risky games of street blaseball. Volunteering, a blaseball bat was pressed into Cerna's hands and ze suddenly found zirself standing at the plate.

Cerna was welcomed with open arms, as all new players to the Flowers are. Ze has since found a home in Boston, enjoying the experience of exploring the city, and inviting zir large extended family to the city to watch Flowers home games. Ze claims this family includes Mothra as a distant cousin, but so far she has not shown up to any games.  

Cerna communicates using wing movement based semaphore with a heavy Boston accent. The only one who understands this language at the moment is Inez Owens. As such, Owens and Cerna have become fast friends. Still, Owens often censors Cerna's most vulgar statements, feeling uncomfortable relaying such language to the rest of the team.

Gloria Bugsnax

When Hiroto Cerna first joined the Boston Flowers on Day 32 or Season 6 they received a warm welcome to the team. Still, being a lifelong drifter, Cerna encountered difficulties adapting to life in Boston. Cerna was initially cautious of Bugsnax due to zir ingrained prey instincts, but it soon became clear Bugsnax had only the purest of intentions in showing Cerna around the city. Since then, many members of the Boston Flowers have reported seeing Cerna and Bugsnax together often. The two are often seen walking in the garden or spending time at Cerna’s camp on the roof under the Citglo sign.

Zack Sanders

While many Flowers and Sunbeams have become closer since the teams entered into the Wild Low Division together, none are so close as Hiroto Cerna and Zack Sanders. The twos’ public flirtations turned committed relationship has been a matter of gossip in both Boston and Hellmouth since Season 6. When the Flowers and Sunbeams play together the two are rarely seen apart. Even during the offseason, Cerna and Sanders went on a vacation to Japan together between Season 7 and 8, and were seen “tearing it up on the dance floor” at the Hlomecoming celebration after the end of Season 8. When asked for comment on zir relationship to Zack Sanders, Cerna flapped zir wings a bunch and flew away. Initially seen as no comment, Cerna’s close friend Inez Owens later translated the remarks to the interviewer as “she’s the coolest and prettiest gal in the league. If ya had workin’ eyes you could see that for yourself instead a talkin’ to me”
