Night is a weather condition that existed during the Pre-History I era, and debuted on Season 23, Day 104.
When a game is played in Night weather, there's a chance for a position swap between an active player and a player from that team's Shadows. The active player will be taken by a Deep Darkness, and a player from the shadows will "clock in".
