Overperforming and Underperforming are a pair of modifications used to impose a 20% bonus or 20% penalty on a player or team's performance.
Overperforming and Underperforming first appeared in relation to the Perk Modification, and have been commonly used as a shorthand for any modification that improves or impairs a player's performance under specific circumstances. It has been seen across a number of modifications, with a few instances of players remaining "stuck" overperforming or Underperforming due to the behavior of the source modification.

Sutton Bishop - Perk
On Season 17, Day 19, deceased player Sutton Bishop haunted Baltimore Crabs player Kennedy Loser in a game with Coffee 3s weather. Bishop had played for Inter Xpresso during the Coffee Cup and in turn had received the Perk modification, but was incinerated before playing any games in Coffee weather. Bishop "Perked up" for the first time, hitting a single and proceeding to steal third and home, but did not lose the Overperforming modification upon their return to the hall. Bishop haunted Loser later that same season and picked up Reverberating as well from The Meadow's Echo Chamber, and kept both modifications until being Returned to play for the ILB Semi-Centennial game.
Wyatt Mason X - Homebody
On Season 19, Day 23, Wyatt Mason X on the Seattle Garages Echoed Hawaii Fridays player Lady Matsuyama's Homebody and Underperforming modifications, since Matsuyama was Away at the time. On Day 24, Homebody activated and gave Mason X Overperforming. However, Mason X's Underperforming never cleared. Mason X continued to have both mods through both a Fridays and Mexico City Wild Wings series, until Day 28 when they echoed Magi Ruiz's Triple Threat in a Reverb game.
Tot Clark - Ambitious
During Season β21, the Seattle Garages player Tot Clark gained Holey Ambitious Socks from the Community Chest, giving them the Ambitious modification, and on Day 103 they began Overperforming. During that Season's Election, Clark was the subject of an Item Steal Will to steal a Cool Arm Helmet of the Feast, causing Clark to drop the Holey Ambitious Socks. While Clark lost the Ambitious Modifier, their Overperforming modifier never went away, as Ambitious never triggered to remove the effect in the Earlseason of Season 22. As such Tot Clark remained overperforming, even after their incineration in Season β24, right up until the Nullification of Blaseball.
