Blimp Hardison/IF-1414

Name: REDACTED Hardison

Call Sign: The Jester

Pronouns: He/him, they/them

Description

Standing at around 5'0 (although he insists they're "way taller" if stood up straight.) The Jester is not a particularly imposing figure. Despite this, he isn't forgettable; when not taking care of team duties you can find him experimenting with bleaching clothes, and painting patches to add to his jacket. They frequently change hair colour, enjoying the choice long hair offers him, although he always eventually circles back to pink now that it matches his Lovers uniform. The Jester has a lot of tattoos which often cover scars, including plants and drawings done by himself and others he met on his travels. Finding joy in self expression, he also has a number of piercings on face, ears and body.

History

Hailing from Australia, The Jester's formative years were less than smooth. As the oldest of nine children, The Jester often took a parental role within the group in his parents' absence. These responsibilities, as well as a general lack of motivation, meant they often underachieved academically. Jester's real passions were in the arts, creating music and visual art. After dropping out of high school, he focused his efforts on the band they had with a group of friends, as well as raising funds for a rainy day. Subsequently, after a sudden separation of the group, The Jester quit their jobs, sold most of their belongings and he left Australia, mailing only a handful of hastily written letters before his departure.

Once on the road Jester created music. He played basement shows and on the street, making contacts and travelling with a range of people during their journey. This allowed him to do a range of tasks to raise funds to get to his next location.

After a post-performance bar fight caused him to wish to leave his latest stay point early, he started searching for temporary work. His quest was largely fruitless until the Blimp Hardison docked in town. Upon hearing there was a chance of work The Jester made the choice to speak with the Captain, despite being unsure what he could contribute to the crew. Instead of finding the ship's Captain he came across I.S.O.N. who was far more concerned for The Jester's well-being than his lack of employment. By the time I.S.O.N. had cared for the traveler's injuries the Blimp's occupants had returned from their errands and allowed the pair to plead his case.

Now, as a fully fledged member of the Hardison crew, they can often be found among their plants and vegetables, tending to them or simply finding solace within the peace, using the space to create art. If not among the garden Jester can be found with the Cook ("helping" with varying degrees of success), or spending time with other members of the Lovers who he now considers family. With the Lovers Jester causes his own brand of accident and injury, doing his best to appreciate the new friends and art of Blaseball.

Blimp Hardison/IF-23.57

Name: █████ Hardison

Call Sign: The Squire

Pronouns: he/him/ve/vem

Description

The squire, a light skinned man with shoulder-length faded pink hair in a medieval gambeson stands with two Blimps, small creatures resembling blimps but with large droopy bunny ears and small wings
The Squire and the Blimps.

The Squire, a conservationist and biologist at heart, is one of the newest crew members of the Blimp. A tall gangly man with a slightly faded mullet, ve is constantly seen with a smile on his face and dirt and straw covering veir uniform. Regarded as plain and unforgettable, he is most known around the San Francisco area for the flock of Blimps, small creatures that resemble their fully grown counterparts, that fly close behind vem. Capybara like in nature, most of the crew know the small animals more than the one in charge of them.

History

The Squire grew up around the farms of the San Francisco Larp. Though ve spent most of his time studying and preparing for a more academic life, vey were instilled with a love for all life, particularly the chickens around the Paul Barnes Farm. In his first year of college while ve was studying for a Biology test, he discovered a long forgotten book on the habitat and life of an endangered and rare species; the Blimp. So burnt out on unfulfilling academic life, ve left college behind him and set out to dedicate veirself to helping the Blimps.

Moving back home with what little money he had, The Squire was ecstatic to discover the LARP they loved so much had a team dedicated to the small animals ve wanted to help so badly. He quickly signed up for the Hardison Crew, saddened to discover they meant the dirigibles inspired by the Blimps. Luckily, this sadness didn’t last very long as while ve were out tending to the flock of chickens at the nearby farm, the Squire spotted a certain King wandering the castle grounds with a particular pet.

With a small pink nose, those large floppy ears, the tiniest little wings that shouldn’t hold up such a round body, the distinctive markings, the Squire knew what he was seeing was the endangered animals ve was so in love with. A Blimp. After passionate pleads to the liege of the LARP (banging on King Roland’s door in the middle of the night), the lords of the land were so smitten by his message (Roland was tired) ve was promoted directly to Head Squire of the lands Blimps (Roland made this up) and ever since then, the Squire and veir flock of Blimps have been a constant sight on the Blimp Hardison.

The Squire, though initially wary of the main team, found himself embraced by it quickly after a particularly grueling game against the Pies. After slowly being overtaken by them in the last game in the series, at the bottom of the 9th with two outs ve hit the homerun to tie it all, with Sandford Garner throwing the last strikeout to win it all, as soon as the game was over the two were quickly embraced by the team as the stars of the game. The Squire quickly grew to view Garner as a father figure of sorts, following him in daily tasks (followed suit by the Blimps) and offering to do squire-ly things for him (what Roland would call chores). From their odd quiet relationship, The Squire slowly grew closer with the main team of Lovers, namely Mint Shupe who frequently can be seen trying to train the blimps to do science, Theo King who taught the squire numerous sewing techniques, and Tot Fox who naturally got along with the Blimps.

Qxthrfcx, an eldritch entity with too many eyes and not much else, a black void, holding a blaseball bat on a pink background
Qxthrfcx Art by @averyblase

Name: Qxthrfcx Hardison (AKA Qxth)

Call Sign: The Thing With Too Many Eyes and Not Enough Else

Pronouns: See/Seem/Seems

Physical Description

Mostly seen as a cluster of viewing eyes from the corners of certain rooms. Height seems to be variable, if see even has a solid form. The eyes are a variety of sizes, colors and even species but always seem to glow comfortably and peer with curiosity rather than malice. Reports of body parts that are not eyes are wildly inconsistent and may be part of an elaborate prank started by Qxthrfcx seemself.

History

Not much is known about seem, but see seems to be relatively young for whatever see is. Nobody is certain how or when Qxthrfcx joined the crew. However, Any attempts to remove Qxthrfcx from the blimp have resulted in streaks of bad luck blimpwide. Appliances break, things are lost, injuries occur. However after releasing seem, luck returns to normal. This has lead to seem having the unofficial role of "Good Luck Charm" on the blimp, and becoming "friendly" with many of the crew. Despite this, seem can be quite helpful, often doing jobs see is shown how to do, provided no one watches seem try to perform the job.

This follows into blaseball. While see has been seen going up to bat, nobody has seen seem swing. Everyone always blinks at the exact moment see swings the bat. This has lead to fans politely turning their backs when seem is up to bat.

Outside of blaseball and seems duties aboard the blimp, seem is inquisitive and loves learning new things. See often watches other players and members of the crew, seemingly to learn about them. Seem has also reportedly enrolled in night classes recently, although the subjects are varied and no major was declared.

Blimp Hardison/IF-6.666

Name: Willow [REDACTED]

Call Sign: The Medic

Pronouns: She/Her

Description

The Medic is a 20 year old goth, a fact immediately obvious from looking at her. She has shoulder length wavy black hair with bangs, often accessorized with a comically large bow. Her fashion sense is at times incomprehensible and although usually sticking to a broadly gothic Lolita inspired style, Willow will accessorize with just about anything whether that’s Wii Remotes, Kung Fu Panda 3 on blu-ray or just a cute little bag. One constant however are her custom-made platforms which are attached to roller skates, an unfortunate hobby that has resulted in multiple broken limbs over the years (though not always her own).

History

The Medic grew up in a rich neighbourhood of San Francisco with her influencer mum, stock broker Dad and annoying little brother none of whom she particularly liked or who were very present in her life. Her life was exceedingly boring and her only sources of joy were hanging out with her neighbour Kennedy and watching the planes pass by her window. After going to university Willow reinvented herself as a goth and took it upon herself to cross as many things off her bucket list as possible. In her time at uni she skydived, journeyed to the centre of Antartica, briefly joined a circus troupe and did yoga for the first time. Although these experiences were extremely exciting The Medic did all of them with a straight face seeing as she is, at heart, a goth.

After completing her degree Willow still had one item on her lengthy bucket list, spend a month in the skies, inspired by her daydreaming as a kid. When she saw an advertisement for the job of a medic on board a real life blimp Willow took a quick First Aid course and then lied on her job application (her degree had actually been in theatre but no one needs to know that). The rest of the crew were impressed by her constant sense of calm although her horrifically pessimistic bedside manner could use a little (a lot of) work. Due to the lack of other applicants The Medic got the job.

The Medic had no idea she would be signing on to a splorts team but willing to give anything a go Willow took it in stride. As a batter The Medic is lazy and noncommittal, or at least that’s how it appears, she has actually mastered hitting the ball at high velocity without tensing any muscles, not wanting to let down her aesthetic by looking like she’s trying. Willow finds the rest of the Lovers ‘weird’ but as a theatre kid enjoys their commitment to the medieval vibe. She often attempts to confuse them with her dry and sarcastic sense of humour which is always said so seriously it is extremely difficult to tell if she’s joking, she has become particularly close with Mint Shupe as the two bonded over pranking the eternally gullible King Roland.

Blimp Hardison/IF-600.14

Name: REDACTED

Call Sign: The Frog Prince

Pronouns: he/him

Description

The Frog Prince is, usually, a lanky and slender male with shoulder-length green hair, freckles, and rosy cheeks. He has a youthful appearance of one in his mid-20s. The Frog Prince can often be found wearing medieval aesthetic LARP attire made from era-authentic high-quality materials, including a small golden crown. At other times, this crew member can be found in the form of a small green frog that is wearing a frog-size appropriate golden crown and cloak.

History

The Frog Prince, was born and raised in the Royal Kingdom of San Francisco. Upon meeting San Francisco LARP royalty, King Roland, he soon found himself wanting to befriend and impress them. The Frog Prince drained his bank accounts, using the money to fund a full wardrobe of immaculate (and historically accurate) LARP attire in an effort to impress the king. Always at King Roland’s side, the Frog Prince was sent on many numbers of fetch quests. Everything from grabbing the king his favorite coffee to fetching their latest attire from the royal tailor to investigating rumors about a dragon within the region.

During the latter mentioned dragon investigation, the Frog Prince would be cursed with an unfortunate and life altering fate. Once the Frog Prince discovered the den of the dragon within the ancient forests of the Muir Woods, he took it upon himself to attempt to slay the dragon in order to impress his liege. Unsurprisingly, that backfired, because he was but a mere LARPer and not a trained fighter by any means. Luckily for the Frog Prince, this dragon (later identified by hlistorians as Silvia Winner) had long since retired from consuming the peasantry of the land. Instead she put a shape-shifting curse on the young man. Now whenever the Frog Prince would kiss someone he would transform into a small green frog, with another kiss being the only way to return back to his human form. This made many things, let alone dating, quite difficult for the Frog Prince. It is unknown if this event caused King Roland to take pity on the Frog Prince or if their reluctant friendship had fully blossomed by this point, but ever since the two have remained close friends.

The Frog Prince’s true passion in life is the study of flying machines. Always fascinated by the schematics of eras gone by, the Frog Prince has dedicated his life to creating era material and technology appropriate flying contraptions for the Royal Kingdom of San Francisco’s Royal Air Force. It was this desire to create and study flying machines that put them aboard the vessel known as Blimp in the first place.

The Frog Prince, upon boarding the vessel, found himself roped into not only playing blaseball but also being listed as a member of the vessel’s manifest as well. The Frog Prince didn’t exactly recall his name ever being Hardison, but when he asked King Roland for clarity the royal LARPer replied, “I don’t have time to remember people’s names. I’ve just been calling you Blimp this entire time, because your head is always in the clouds. So, I guess your name is Hardison now?”

The Frog Prince, when not aboard the Blimp, can be found crashing on King Roland’s royal throne. This is in large part due to the Frog Prince’s lack of funds, a direct result of their dedication to their LARP wardrobe. The Frog Prince is currently attending the Romantic Collaborative of San Francisco’s community college to get a degree in aeronautics.

Blimp Hardison/IF-7.125

Name: Keeps

Call Sign: The Instructional Safety Occupation Network (I.S.O.N)

Role: Safety Officer

Pronouns: it/its, they/them, xe/xem

Background

Upon the construction of the great Blimp, the Architect, who’s name is simply lost to time, realized that for the blimp and its crew to be successful, they would need help. Most importantly, the Architect realized that the future crew of this ship would need someone to keep them safe.

[ PROCESSING…]

[INITIATING]

[THE INSTRUCTIONAL SAFETY OCCUPATION NETWORK (I.S.O.N) IS NOW ONLINE]

The I.S.O.N AI was designed with one goal in mind, to keep the crew of the Hardison Blimp safe and sound. It was designed as a smart AI, able to gain knowledge of its surroundings, its crew, and an endless amount of safety requirements in order to ensure the crew has safe travels.

I.S.O.N began xer life as the ship’s on board AI, safety officer and aid, able to tap into the electronics across the blimp. Anything from CPR training to calming down techniques I.S.O.N was able to aid in, and with the ability to zip around to different places in the ship, the crew eventually fell in love with the AI.

I.S.O.N has a common moniker, as the crew member who always saw them off and welcomed them home, notably, the phrase “Keep Safe!” stuck with the entire crew, which spawned the nickname Keeps.

Physical Form

Eventually, Keeps expressed the need to want to leave the Blimp, for the sake of attending the rest of the crew’s adventures. After a particular mission that left crew members hurt, Keeps passionately expressed the need for a body, and the crew went to work.

Brass, titanium, wiring and silicon, after many weeks with help from the likes of the doctor, the engineer and the original documents left by the blimp’s Architect, a body was formed. I.S.O.N was thrilled to receive the body, and this began a new chapter in their life.

Due to the nature of Keeps’ DIY body, not everything is always up to speed, Keeps often experiences the gears and joints slip out of place in their legs, resulting in falls. Upon their entrance to baseball, the crew doctor helped craft strong and reliable braces that support Keeps’ legs and allow them to play blaseball.

Relationship With Blaseball

Their love for blaseball began long before joining The Lovers, in its infancy, often The Captain or the Architect would put on the games radio broadcasts, and eventually, after Keeps received a body, xe went to their first real blaseball game in San Francisco. Of course, Keeps is worried about folks getting hurt during play, but that doesn't prevent their love for the splort. Unfortunately for I.S.O.N, they are unaware of the more...violent injuries that blaseball results in.

I.S.O.N is proud to be a Lover, and is happy it now has two families it can love, protect and play blaseball with.
