History

Penelope is actually a construct made entirely out of volcanic rock found within deep beneath Yellowstone's surface, closer to the famous Yellowstone supervolcano. While this makes her a conduit for the natural arcane energies flowing through Yellowstone that give the team its power, it also means that she is unable to wield them and must bat using a simple wooden baseball bat. People also seem to suggest that her geologic nature may be the reason she tries to steal bases so frequently no matter the circumstances of the game, but this could also be blamed on her just really enjoying thievery.

Mathews is known for her surprising consistency at bat.

After joining the New York Millennials, Mathews was interviewed about her adjustment to big city life. “IT’S ACTUALLY PRETTY SICK,” Mathews intoned. “TURNS OUT THERE’S A VOLCANIC HOTSPOT GROWING UNDER ASTORIA.
