The Peanuts Decree as it was in the Season 2 election

Peanuts are a Decree that was introduced in Season Two that were voted into effect at the start of Season 3, marking the beginning of the Peanut Plague[1]. The ominous nature of the decree drew many comparisons to Season 1's The Forbidden Book.

Viewers may purchase Peanuts from the Shop at changing values. However, the value of coins to Peanuts will always be a 1:1 ratio, meaning that 1 coin will always yield 1 Peanut. Negative values are also possible, such as being able to purchase -2 Peanuts for -2 coins, which will deduct Peanuts from the viewer's total and add coins to their account[2].

Viewers are seemingly able to consume Peanuts one a time, with dialogues such as "CRACK IT OPEN NOW". It is not currently known what the effects of this are[3]. Initially, negative peanuts could be eaten to gain coins, but this feature was removed following the Blasphemy period and currently negative peanuts cannot be consumed.

Beginning on Day 1 of Season 3, viewers were able to purchase a Squirrel of Devouring in the Shop for 200 coins to "Recruit a Peanut-hungry squirrel to your side, to help you eat Peanuts faster." The first squirrel increases peanut consumption by one per click, allowing 2 peanuts to be consumed per click.

Peanuts are explicitly mentioned in section 5e of The Book of Blaseball[4], suggesting some significance related to the collection or consumption of one million of them. Following the decree, the text in the book pertaining to peanuts had the word "atone" revealed where it was previously redacted. The text in the Book currently reads:

"e. If at any time, ████████████ atone ████████████  one million Peanuts."

Because of this revelation, it is rumored that the consumption of one million Peanuts is part of the atonement for the opening of The Forbidden Book. This may be what the ticker text "THE FIRST LABOUR" refers to, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Dan-Peanut Replacement

Upon the enactment of the decree, all players named Dan or Daniel had the "Dan" in their names replaced with Peanut. There were no other apparent changes to these players, star rating or otherwise, but an investigation is underway.

Peanuts & Blasphemy

The introduction of Peanuts caused a period of turmoil in the Blaseball economy, leading to the Peanut Fraud that resulted in the Blasphemy period.

Post-Blasphemy, peanuts were no longer available to purchase in the small, varying amounts observed pre-Blasphemy. Instead, their listing in the Shop was changed to "Purchase a bucket of 1000000 peanuts" with a price of 1000000 Coins, making them ostensibly unattainable.

Pre-Blasphemy and immediately post-Blasphemy, the ticker displayed how many peanuts had been eaten like such:

"WE HAVE EATEN 38356 COLLECTIVE PEANUTS"

However, around the time of the additional short periods of Blasphemy on Season 3 Day 5, this was replaced with the new text:

"WE HAVE EATEN -INFINITY COLLECTIVE PEANUTS."

This text has remained ever since.

Effect of Peanuts

In games where Peanuts is the stated weather, players may have either an Allergic reaction or a Yummy reaction to a peanut landing on the field. An Allergic reaction will result in a reduction to the players stats, while a Yummy reaction will result in them increasing.

A link has been found between fans of a team eating Peanuts during a game and the incidence of Allergic / Yummy reactions.
