Alternates IRM Style Guide

Post by Alter Eagle (talk contribs), permalink here

Hello and welcome! This IRM lets readers of the Alternate page learn about what Alternation looks like, fanlorewise, in Blaseball.

When I made this IRM, I envisioned two main types of entry (but would love to hear ideas for more if folks have 'em): Theories, and player profiles.

Theories should, stylistically, read like scientists trying to propose what's inside a black hole. Make use of the Deadlink template to "link" to other research, talk in the detached and abstract voice of academics, all that good stuff.

Player Profiles can detail how Alternation affected a particular player. And yes! A single player can be featured multiple times in this IRM, if there are multiple interpretations for how their Alternation affected them.

In general, anything that is written like it could be in a magazine/journal article is great. Make sure all entries have a heading (in four ='s signs, or at Subheading 2 if you're in Visual Editor) that gives your entry a descriptive subtitle. For example: The name of the theory you're touting, "On the Alternation of <Player>" if it's about a particular player, or "On the Season X Alternation of <Team>'s Shadows" for, say, Season 21's Yellowstone Magic.

For Player Profile IRM entries in particular, make sure your proposal is cross-posted to that player's Talk Page (not just posted here!) for the required 24 hour period.

1) On the Alternation of Math Velazquez and Collins Melon: Velazquez voluntarily became an Alternate but turned out to be another facet of the same universal constant. The Reader removing the Alternate modification from Melon in season 16 made Melon the same sort of facet of a universal constant.

2) Alternate Reality Pairs: Several pairs of players from the season 4 Alternate Reality decree come from the same alternate universes as each other, from teams from the same location but with reversed thematics (often known as "mirrorverses"). Most commonly cited:

As an FYI we started writing our own mirrorverse pages immediately during S4. It wasn't posted to a lot so it never branched out into anything as big as "Dark Seattle" or anything, but I just wanted to post this here to make sure that claiming they were all from the same alternate universe didn't step on any toes with the silly ideas we came up with long ago:

Proposed Filebox IRM of alternate interps

Howdy,

I'm posting here to gauge interest in an IRM being added to the community lore section of this page so all the different ideas/headcanons about what happens to players when alternated.

I envision it as being a mix of sharing the stories of specific Alt'd players and in-universe "reports" detailing all the ways we cope with the prospect of our beloved characters being launched off into a different reality 🥲

Let me know in the replies if this is something you'd be keen to contribute to! (Any character lore should be cross-posted to talk pages before being added here, ofc.

Oh that's so fun, I'd love to do an entry on the Shark Seattle heist, how Alaynabella Hollywood, Lenjamin Zhuge, and Wyatt Mason X got alternated.

I know there's a couple teams that have fleshed out the alternate universes some of their alts came from; that might be worth prodding at. There's also constructed duplicates/successors, players whose alts get pulled but whose originals are commonly lored as still being present, and the same player with a new metaphorical coat of paint. There's even the "different facet of the same universal constant" thing that is shared between, of all players, Math Velazquez and de-alternated Collins Melon.

So yeah I think there's a lot of potential for IRM here
