Rumor / Community Lore
This article contains lore created collaboratively by the Blaseball community. It is just one of many Rumors that we've found in the Interdimensional Rumor Mill. You can find more Rumors about Yusef Fenestrate at their Rumor Registry.

Early Life

Yusef Fenestrate was born in Egypt, and moved to Japan with their family when they were eleven. As they got older, they started talking about music that could not be heard with one’s ears. When asked how they heard the music, if not with their ears, they were vague, saying “I dunno, I just kind of hear it with my face, you know? The normal way you hear stuff like that.” They have since described this phenomenon as “the universe’s impossible symphony of resonant mundanities,” or as they more affectionately deem it, “some real rad tunes.”

Their curiosity about the universe’s music grew with age and they decided to go to school for physics, thinking they might be better able to explain and share the music to others if they studied the forces that make up the immaterial plane. However, they soon grew disillusioned about academia due to how the professors mishandled their learning needs and decided they would benefit more from self-education that was built for their ADHD and autism instead of in spite of it.

As a young physicist outside of academia, they sought mentors in the discipline and eventually came into contact with acclaimed mathematician and buff fitness buff Stijn Strongbody, and spent some years exchanging letters about their numerous theories. After some time, Fenestrate’s interests shifted and they became more fascinated with the history of objects and how their songs change with the events that occur in their presence. They dropped contact with Strongbody as their search for answers took them from physics to history.

Through the following years they went through an intense punk phase, acquired many new interests and skills, started rooming with confirmed namepire and rumored ex-umpire Coolname Galvanic, discovered they were aromantic after allegedly attempting to date and breaking up with Galvanic on amicable terms, and came out as genderfluid. Before being recruited to the Tokyo Lift they had been weighing the pros and cons of opening a small at-home tattoo parlor.

Blaseball Career

After Strongbody performed what some on the Lift would later pejoratively refer to as some “epic future vision math,” the events of 1997 allowed him to catch glimpses of the future where he recognized his former protege Fenestrate among the players on the yet-unformed team. The void left by the Ascension of the Baltimore Crabs and his rush to create the team of his vision prompted him to contact them, asking whether they would like to join. Hoping to hear Blaseball’s own unique symphonic soundscape in person, Fenestrate accepted.

Their performance since joining the Lift has been somewhat underwhelming. They have told reporters that the sound of a home run is like no other, and despite their clear skill in the splort and excellent plate discipline, they are often so focused on achieving hits with that particular resonance that they end up making poor contact with the ball. Their batting career has been a long series of home runs, groundouts and flyouts, and they are rarely actually seen parked on base.

Time Spent Elsewhere

During the Lift’s third and final game of their Season 14 playoffs against the Hades Tigers, Fenestrate was swept Elsewhere. They were there for the entirety of the two-year long siesta. Several months after their return, a reporter stopped them on the street and they commented on a peculiar quality of the space:

“[The world] has always been a place of music to me. Every object... every being resonates with its own particular sound to create an impossible symphony beyond anything our ears can sense. Rubber-insulated wires and decomposing bark alike sing in languages I can’t really ever hope to translate for you. So while you may not quite understand the gravity of the situation, I’ll ask you to at least try to imagine what was going through my head when I was [in] Elsewhere and everything was silent. I’ve never really experienced that before... It shook me. Yeah. I’d say it shook me far more than I would have expected.”

Despite maintaining their usual laid-back countenance and deliberate speech patterns, their speech has become notably slower and more prone to trailing off in the middle of a sentence, and they have conducted few talks at the Lift’s community center since their return.

Personal Life

As a generally good-natured and mellow-mannered individual, Fenestrate has few troubles getting along with most members of the Lift.

Notable relationships include their continued co-habitation of their old apartment with Coolname Galvanic, who insisted in joining the Lift as soon as it heard of Strongbody’s invitation. Additionally, they have entered a queerplatonic relationship with Grollis Zephyr, often went to craft workshops with Concrete Mandible before their shadowing in the Season 12 Elections, and have bonded with Gerund Pantheocide over a mutual love of punk culture and the discography of the Seattle Garages. They have also been recorded referring to Alejandro Leaf as their aunt on several occasions despite sharing no publicly-known familial connections. Their relationship with Strongbody remains distant and awkward, and they have admitted to feeling that he still just sees them as the kid he mentored rather than the person that kid has become.
