Role on Atlantis Georgias

Jan has been on the Atlantis Georgias since before the team’s Descension. In her role on the team, Jan serves as the team’s Treasurer. It is rumored that she keeps a personal hoard somewhere hidden beneath The Bubble. Jan used to steal bases and occasionally hit balls, but has been unable to commit crime (steal bases, mostly) since being switched to the team's Rotation during Reverb weather.

Jan has been chained to the mound as a preventative measure for her inexplicable need to commit crime, which would put her in quite a tight spot with the Umpires while playing as a pitcher. In more recent developments, a large cage has been added to the pitching mound during Jan's games as the chain is sometimes not enough.

Appearance

Jan Canberra is a tall skeletal ex-pirate donning a tricorn hat and one or more sword(s). Long bluish-green "hair" is stuck firmly to her skull, and inhumanly sharp teeth line her smile. Jan speaks in a notably australian accent, albeit her vocabulary is sometimes ambiguous in origin-- not to mention old-fashioned-- and she can be heard vocalizing slang from at least 3 different global regions on the daily.

Personality

Jan can be described as boisterous, crass, confident, and incredibly competitive. She is no stranger to cracking jokes, which are sometimes indistinguishable from genuity. While loud and even fighty at times, she is very caring for the “tykes and youngsters” of the team, which in comparison to Jan’s eternal age covers just about every member.

She most notably likes to read and write mysteries, and regards with an uncertain level of sincerity that she “wrote every mystery novel, ever.”

In her left over free time Jan enjoys skateboarding and various crime.

History

Jan grew up in Australia, though the details of her life in flesh are relatively unknown. Only bits and pieces can be remembered up to the end; Family, and then abandonment. Austerity, fortune, love. Fear, adventure, determination, thievery, friends: the nameless faces, the ghosts of memories long gone. Blank pages once darkened with ink. A life led near-fully, she recalls.

Her final memories were her strongest held. An incredible attack on her ship, it was, a face-off for the ages. The fight was long and beastly. It had been reported as a territorial battle, of course, though those involved had known that it had been much more.

In the end, Canberra’s crew was overpowered. Her comrades lost, her treasures pilfered-- splintered, flaming holes had lined the boat’s mighty hull as it sank slowly into darkened waters.

Of course, Canberra fought to her last breath. Loyal to her word, her crew, and her livelihood, the Captain went down with her ship as the smell of blood, brine, and gunpowder filled the air.

It had been dark a long time after the battle. When she finally awoke, Jan was almost nothing but bones and waterlogged accessories. That and her soul, which was tethered tight to her form. She remembered nearly nothing. She could do little but leave the remains of her beloved ship behind and choose to wander the ocean floor in search for anything at all.

Walk long enough, and anybody would find Atlantis. Since discovering the place, Jan has taken to lightening up her outlook on (after)life and starting anew. Upon wandering into the Atlantean Dome one fateful day, Jan Canberra was selected to play ball.

On the Tokyo Lift

In Season 20, Canberra was feedbacked to the Tokyo Lift. While she approached the team with a lot of confidence, reports were unclear on if she went to the team intentionally for a change of pace, if it was an accident, or if she even understood that her vacation was actually a permanent placement. Either way, Canberra made a bombastic entrance. Reportedly, the first thing she said after arriving on the Lift was, “It’s a good thing I’m here, so you’re welcome.”

Canberra spent a lot of time sailing on the Sea of Japan. She became close with new teammate Inky Rutledge, who spent several years away from the Sea of Japan and knows a thing or two about homesickness. (Not that Canberra was homesick, okay, she was doing great in Tokyo.) Canberra also developed a fascination with Kit Honey, occasionally claiming that she wrote Honey’s detective stories and reminiscing on times spent together. Honey was occasionally dragged into being the plucky detective to Canberra’s comically nefarious antics in the Legscraper.

Canberra returned to Atlantis in the Season 20 elections. Everyone generally agrees this was for the best.
