Lore History

(Record begins 11 Sept 2020)

  • 11 Sept 2020, approx 03:30 UTC - Shortly after Randall Marijuana's incineration, lore generation began about Steph Weeks. Idea introduction & discussion progressed over the course of approx. 1hr and 15mins. First draft was introduced at 05:04 UTC; typos spotted, but overall met w/ positive responses over 21mins. Finalized 05:25 UTC.
  • 15 Sept 2020, 02:40 UTC - With the discovery that a Blaseball week is 9 days, proposed that Weeks' lore should be reconsidered. Generally agreed to align to a 9-day week, but the names of the extra 2 bats wasn't certain. In particular, it wasn't even clear if we should name the extra two days. Along the way, it was proposed that Weeks be explicitly a gay trans man. Vote on both topics was initiated, but didn't come to a clear consensus. For the days of the week, it was clear one day should be left void, but whether or not the other should be named was unclear; decided to come up with a name, then pit it against a void. Name options considered:
    • Wednesgay
    • Jazday
    • Frigay
    • Nonday
    • Toyotathon
    • Umpday
    • Voidday
    • Nullday
    • Weekday
    • Birdsday
    • Peanutday
    • Shellday
    • Legumeday
    • Peanuday
  • 15 Sept 2020, 04:10 UTC - Continuing from above, Nullday was chosen as prospective day name, but didn't want to go forward without consulting the broader community. Decided to bring forward to #fan-lore later. Since some discussion was had earlier in the night, Steph being a gay trans man was re-polled in the hopes of reaching closer to a consensus. Re-poll didn't reach earlier numbers, so decision was postponed. Alternative proposed in the process: transmasc GNC Steph.
  • 15 Sept 2020, approx 16:15 UTC - Proposed Nullday to #fan-lore and started re-poll on gender identity (w/ sexuality to follow). Aside from some brief discussion, no objections were raised re:Nullday; finalized. Gender identity poll was torn between trans man (10 votes) and transmasc GNC (9 votes); opened floor for discussion. Arguments in favor of trans man: more common IRL, lacking binary trans rep on the team, more familiarity. Arguments in favor of transmasc GNC: Steph's acceptance of they/them, questions about binary gender in relation to history as part of Stephens Lightner, the 9 gimmick extending into gender territory. Final poll was opened 16:47 UTC, closed 17:11 UTC; trans man favored 14-3. Poll w/r/t Weeks' sexuality followed up, starting simple: make it explicit vs keep it vague. Final votes were 6 favoring explicit, 4 favoring vague; not an overwhelming majority, so floor opened for discussion. Arguments in favor of making it explicit: matches explicit gender identity, clear representation, completes the lore aspect so we don't have to worry about it later. Arguments in favor of keeping it vague: not central for most players, keeps space available for us & potential RPers to play in, worries that it might dominate the narrative over Steph having 9 arms etc, permits more interpretations of Steph. With arguments laid out, re-polled, this time opting to go with whatever takes the majority. Keeping it vague won out, 11-4. No lore on Steph's sexuality will be written at this time.
  • 07 Oct 2020, approx 00:30 UTC - Call made for a lore block to incorporate the relationship between Elijah Valenzuela and Weeks into Weeks' page (see Talk:Elijah Valenzuela for more details on that discussion; decided before wiki policy changes, thus assuming a summary of this edit doesn't need to be posted to the Talk page for 24hrs). Idea first proposed 00:34 UTC, first draft written 00:47 UTC, edit proposed 01:36 UTC; only minor further edits proposed, finalized 02:29 UTC.
