Topic on Talk:Modifications

From Blaseball Wiki

This edit is a bit major so I figured I'll propose it here first. At the moment the first thing a reader will see in this page is the History section, which is painfully outdated and frankly of absolutely no help to new/current Blaseball fans. I propose to replace it with a section giving general overview of modifications as it stands at the moment. This section shouldn't be updated that often, but in the event that Blaseball Happens, updating it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Here's my proposed edit. For completion's sake, I've also rewrote the History section to be shorter and more general, instead of removing it entirely. It's still outdated, though. I'm still not sure what else should be explained there, and what would just bloat it up further.

Overview

Modifications can be obtained from a variety of sources. Recorded sources of modifications include decrees, blessings, wills, weathers, items, as well as various events that happen during a Blaseball game. Some modification can also spawn related modifications, such as how a player with Fire Eater will have the modification Magmatic after they ate fire.

Each modifications have a set Duration. These Durations dictate when the modification will be removed, but is not necessarily an indicator of how long they will last. For example, despite having its Duration set as Permanent, Magmatic will usually quickly wear off within a single game. Some Permanent modifications may also disappear for reasons yet unknown, such as the case for Elsewhere and Scattered.

Modifications can be reliably gained or changed through Wills. Reform can change a modification with Permanent duration, Enrich can give a team various seasonal modifications, and Trust/Alternate Trust will give a player a specific beneficial modification.

History

Modifications were first introduced at end of Season 4 through decrees, with the first modifications being Alternate and Targeted Shame. Since then, various modifications have been granted through various means.

Day 45 of end of Season 5 introduced the first weather-induced modification, with Reverberated granted to Don Mitchell during Reverb weather after "reverberations reached dangerous levels".

The first item-induced modification was introduced at the end of Season 5, through blessings granting the items Fireproof Jacket and Noise-Cancelling Headphones, containing the modifications Fireproof and Soundproof, respectively.
