COMMUNITY REPORTS
The remainder of this article contains lore created collaboratively by the Blaseball community.

The Pit is a deep, non-Euclidean pit underneath The Pocket, the stadium of the Breckenridge Jazz Hands.

Nature and History

Older than human history and predating the ski town that would be built around it is the Pit. The Breckenridge Community Theatre, eventually the future stadium of the Breckenridge Jazz Hands, The Pocket, was originally built on top of it for its free storage space. The Pit is seemingly endless from within, its endless darkness expanding and contracting as the needs of the stadium and its facilities change. During construction of a subway line underneath The Pocket, the Breckenridge Transit Authority discovered that the Pit was not as deep on the outside as it was on the inside. The reason for this discrepancy has never been investigated.

The Pit is known by staff of The Pocket for being dangerous to traverse without ample attunement to the nature of the Pit. It is also theorized to be sapient, as throwing items into it will often result in a different object, often a prop or aspic, being thrown out of the Pit at high speeds. Facilities manifest within the Pit, typically as the need arises, and are unstable by nature. The theatre superstition of lighting a ghost light[1] was adapted into the usage of ghost lights to stabilize facilities in the Pit for use. Stabilized areas are freely and safely accessible to stadium staff, Jazz Hands players, and the public. Among the stabilized areas are the main body of facilities in the stadium, including but not limited to the Shadows, The Smithy, The Drip/The Curtain Call coffee shop and bar, The Pocket Radio station, player accommodations, public transportation, and prop storage.

The Pit is also the primary location of Jazz Hands Shadows who have never seen play, where they act as musical accompaniment to Blaseball games from within the depths of the stadium's orchestra pit. Stagehands, who are Shadows who have seen active play, generally do not play in the orchestra pit.

Pit Cats and Other Entities

The instability of the Pit has created an environment where a variety of anomalous flora, fauna, and Entities emerge from the depths. While some of these entities become part of the Shadows roster, others become stadium staff. One of the most prominent types of Entity to originate from the Pit are pit cats. Pit cats are anomalous cats and uncats that emerge from the Pit and become companions to Jazz Hands and stadium staff. The staff and residents of The Pocket keep a running list of pit cats that have been observed.

PIT Network

Within the Pit is a transportation network that travels between various facilities known as the PIT Network, standing for P Internal Transportation Network. Stadium management never came to a consensus on what the P in PIT stands for, so it simultaneously means Public, Pocket, Pit, and Primordial. The system is overseen by a member of The Pocket’s staff named The Station Master. The PIT Network is always changing as facilities manifest.

Stephens, Colorado

After Jazz Hands player Stephens Lightner retreated to the Shadows, it was discovered that the instability of the Pit caused their overlapping interdimensional forms to disconnect while within the space. All of the various Stephens use this freedom to explore the Pit, and along the way created a metropolitan area within it known as Stephens, Colorado. Reachable via the PIT Network’s L line, Stephens, CO is entirely populated by Stephens Lightner.
