Personal Life

Alighieri was a transmasculine native Atlantean of unknown age, and an official archivist for the city. They maintained this position even after the decension of the Atlantis Georgias in Season β12, and could often be found in one of Atlantis’ many libraries late into the night following games. Her archival work largely consisted of recording and preserving oral histories from various Atlantean communities, and ensuring that objects washed up in Atlantis from above-sea were returned to their rightful owners.

Fascinated by the legends surrounding Blaseball in Atlantean folklore, Alighieri signed up for the Georgias in order to learn more about the splort and its community traditions. They held close relationships with many of the original Georgias, and often collaborated with the teams’ researchers when working with Atlantean artefacts or history. Alighieri was also known for posing philosophical questions to the opposing team’s pitcher or catcher while up to bat.

Rumors persist that Alighieri was once engaged to someone from above-sea. Sharp-eyed fans have occasionally claimed to glimpse a ring on a chain around her neck. However, when asked in interviews, they have demurred, preferring to keep their personal life separate from their Blaseball career.

Philosophical Works

In addition to her archival practice, Alighieri is a philosopher of some note in Atlantean academic circles. They’re most known for their writings on the right to be forgotten, a philosophy that empowers communities to determine where, when, and how they participate in collective memory practices.

Alighieri’s philosophy was heavily impacted by their time in the ILB. Recent writings attempted to reconcile her original ideas on forgetting and remembering with incineration and necromancy, but remain unfortunately unfinished in the wake of her own untimely incineration.

Coral Gardens

During their tenure as an archivist, Alighieri maintained at the main Atlantean library branch a large coral garden for injured coral in need of rehabilitation. As part of her blaseball uniform, they wore a piece of coral as a laurel. It is unclear how it managed to survive, yet it was always quite remarkably vibrant.

The garden has since been renamed the Alighieri Memorial Coral Garden in their absence.
