Orpheus

Orpheus has been the announcer for the Hades Tigers for as long as the team has existed, hand-picked by Hades as the Voice of Sixth Circle Stadium as he, in Hades' own words, "knows something about heartbreaking losses."

Orpheus' casting style is best described as "in the moment". He has a habit of waxing lyrical about particularly impressive feats that happen on the field as they happen, but never referring to them again after he has moved on to the next play that catches his interest. When approached by a splorts reporter and asked about rumors that he had a complete lack of short term memory, his simple response was: "I simply prefer to believe that the greatest stories lay in the future, not the past."

On Season 1, Day 6, after the Tigers suffered their first recorded home loss to the Baltimore Crabs, an unusually muted and wistful Orpheus made the final call of the broadcast - "And that's the ballgame, splortsfans. The Tigers have lost. But don't worry, for there's always tomorrow's game with Miami. Keep your head up, eyes forward, and never-" at which point the mic cut off momentarily, before he continued. "Never look back." Afterwards, he staggered out of the booth, shoulders slumped, and disappeared. Fans rallied around this use of the team's motto, chanting it loudly as they filed out of the stadium and into the night.

The next day, the Tigers roared back to life, crushing their opponents in a 7-2 blowout. An exuberant Orpheus screamed with delight, signing off with a similar line to the previous night - "THAT'S THE BALLGAME, SPLORTSFANS! See you again tomorrow and remember - head up, eyes forward, and never, NEVER look back." This signoff has become his signature on each and every game, delivered, win or loss, with the same excited energy.
