I'M FORGETTING WHAT MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE

I've never been to a show outside my own
I've never been to a show that didn't suck
I tried to get a ride to an Orville Peck concert once
But I don't have a car or friends so I was **** out of luck
I'm worried I'll forget good music completely
I'm worried good music doesn't exist
I'm scared I'll say "hey remember good music"
And the band will say "what are you talking about Glass? Music's always sounded like this. Are you alright?" You know you remember things wrong sometimes. Maybe you aren't well. Maybe you should take a rest."

I worry about that a lot.
I'm forgetting what music sounds like!
I'm forgetting why people would like it!
I'm forgetting why I joined a band!
I'm forgetting my sense of purpose!

Sometimes our music starts to sound normal
Like something I'd listen to on purpose
I can't tell if it means we're getting better
Or if I'm getting much much worse
I'm scared that I'll start to accept this
The noise that comes out when I sing
There's nothing a person can't get used to
I think that's a horrible thing
[Spoken] to just accept bad things. Forget you could ever ask for better. That's the thing I'm scared of the most. I'm scared of a lot of things.
And speaking of things I'm scared of-
I'm forgetting what music sounds like!
I'm forgetting things that once brought me joy!
I'm forgetting what this instrument I'm holding is!
I'm forgetting my place in the universe!

[Spoken to a beat] Sometimes I can't sleep but sometimes I dream I fly. Not glass anymore but feathers and flesh, I leave this place behind. And music is flying with me, strong and lovely, like before. And I'm free for the first time in forever. I won't be scared anymore. I Sing right for the first time and I'm not scared anymore.
