From Blaseball Wiki

Hey! Hi! I'm the xicane person who left the blaseball community, who came up with a bunch of the lore around Ortiz being xicana. which I never added to the wiki, because I figured exactly this shit would happen.

Ortiz's page was the first blaseball player page I ever read. It's the one that sold me on joining blaseball. Her name reminded me of the Latino baseball players who were my heroes as a kid growing up and her design? Honestly? Slaps. I grew up reading and loving Greek mythology as a kid, I don't see how xicane and greek aspects of a character have to be mutually exclusive.

It's always been important to me that Ortiz is a Latina icon. I put a lot of my Mexican culture into her because that's what I am and that's what I know. However. I was not the one to come up with her connection to Xiuhcoatl. My mythology nerd ass thought it was a cool as hell idea and I riffed off of it a lot, but I ended up balking at putting any of it on the wiki. Because cultural impostor syndrome is an asshole, and my access to my heritage throughout my life has been pretty fucking limited, and I wasn't sure if it would be appropriative of me to make that reference. And when I asked the couple other xicane people I know in blaseball about it, they said pretty much the same damn thing. Colonization and forced assimilation is a fucking bitch, y'all!

That said: is anyone in this thread who is so concerned over the portrayal of this character actually Nahua? Are you xicane? Indigenous? If not, especially if you're white, then turn your virtue signal off and kindly stay the hell out of this conversation.

I don't really have a solution here. I just wanted my voice to be heard amidst all the fucking white noise. Nesbitt and/or Steven, sorry for saying fuck on your good wiki. Don't @ me about this. I'm tired.
