Half-way between a light bulb and a jellyfish, lanterns are floating creatures made of molten glass, wires and gases. Their “heart” so to speak is a heating component in its center that heats the glass enough to allow mobility. Above that there is a larger bubble of glass containing helium that allows the creature to stay afloat in the air. Below it’s core hang glowing neon tubes. These creatures can be found generally floating around or leeching off a power cable somewhere which is how they sustain themselves. On a rare occasion they appear to multiply through mitosis. Whether these are naturally occurring creatures or intelligently designed machines is unclear. Lanterns are very much harmless creatures, though you shouldn’t touch them regardless cause they’re hot and electric and liable to explode if you aren’t careful. Most mechanics will ignore these creatures, except on the rare occasion that a mechanic finds themself without a headlamp and will coax a lantern over with a battery to find their way in the dark.
