Lanterns are luminescent creatures of neon and molten glass.

Appearance

Half-way between a light bulb and a jellyfish, Lanterns are floating creatures made of molten glass, wires and various noble gasses. Their glass bodies are kept malleable by a heating-element "heart" which sits at their core. Above this core is a large bubble of glass containing helium which allows the creature to stay afloat in the air. Below the warm core hang glowing neon-filled tubes which shine brightly when the creature feeds.

Behavior

These creatures can be found generally floating around or leeching off of a power source, their primary source of sustenance. They have been observed, albeit rarely, to multiply through mitosis. Whether these are naturally occurring creatures or intelligently designed machines is unclear. While entirely harmless in terms of their behavior, their material composition warrants some caution when a Lantern is nearby. Their glass skin is quite hot, and if they've fed recently a sharp impact can result in a violent release of their stored electrical charge. Most mechanics will ignore these creatures, but if you find yourself in a pinch without a light source, a Lantern can be coaxed to assist with the offering of a spare battery.
