Specifically, when concerns about Meowlik's content in particular were brought up in discussions, part of the concern was that the hard dedication to him being a JRPG character from a JRPG entirely took away focus from his cultural background. Moving away from that to where he came from a world more adjacent to ours, while keeping his connection to JRPGs as a part but not the whole, is an attempt to help highlight his background, ground his character in the real world places tied to it, and keep the focus off one sole aspect of his character.
