Spaceman typically walks slowly and floatily, almost as if they aren’t fully affected by Earth’s gravity. This makes in all the more surprising when it is their turn on the mound; Spaceman starts with a slow-motion windup before their blazingly fast pitch. Opposing batters describe the experience of batting against Spaceman as extremely jarring; sometimes being so transfixed with Spaceman’s slow movement that they don’t realize a pitch has been thrown until it’s already in the catcher’s mitt.

Spaceman joined a Season 9 Garages pitching squad that had just lost Ron Monstera, and knowing that a flickering Jaylen Hotdogfingers would soon be leaving the team to go on her world tour. Fans were expecting a dismal season from the Garages’ rotation, but Spaceman exceeded all expectations with a spectacular 12-4 season, leading the team in wins, ERA (3.5), and WHIP (1.007). Along with fellow overperformer-for-their-star-rating Betsy Trombone, Spaceman was a large part of getting the Garages into the Season 9 playoffs.

By mid-season, fans had begun a raucous campaign for Spaceman to be named ILB Rookie of the Year, madly chanting “SPACE ACE” and “ROTY” when Spaceman took the mound. Spaceman capped off their first season by pitching a 10-inning Game 5 win against the Philly Pies and former teammate Henry Marshallow in the MLDS. Unfortunately, Spaceman finished second in ROTY voting, losing out to Shoe Thieves rookie Fitzgerald Wanderlust. The two have maintained a friendly rivalry ever since.

Despite not winning the award, fans still chant “ROTY” to encourage their rock-solid pitching star. Spaceman describes the attention as <YOU MAY RELY ON IT> via the 8-ball in their helmet.
