The Downer is a creature seen from a distance, always at a point more Down than the perciever. Descriptions vary, with some recurring features to link all sightings of Downers. They are a naturally fused combination of mechanism and flesh, wires and gears fusing easily and naturally with veins and muscles, all encased within a transluscent exterior. Some Downers are described as bipedal and humanoid and there are tales of mechanics who have followed them into the depths of the Core, imagining them to be lost fellows wandering towards dangerous areas. Others seem to be animals or fusions of other denizens of the Core, with some being multi legged, multi eyed beings unlike anything else.

Behavior

There are a few other common threads to Downer sightings - the key one being that they are always moving further Down, as though seen part way along a journey into the depths. Attempts to get lower than them will simply see them accelerate to always remain below the perciever. Attempts to interact with them have thus far proved unsuccesful but Core Biologists and other members of F.R.O.N.T. who study the creatures of the Core persist in the hopes of uncovering the anti-Physical secrets of these creatures.
