Origins

Zuriel Kramer was a resident of DC before moving to Baltimore later in zir life. Kramer holds an interest in found object art as well as the creation of machines and mechanical pieces with scrap, and specifically designs zer own prosthetics using them. Upon arriving in Baltimore Ze quickly took up collecting scrap and various bits of discarded trash from the city, in particular making trips out to their famous Mr. Trash Wheel to for supplies and eventually just unwind. Even as they worked on zir projects however, Kramer had zir eyes set on the ultimate prize of Baltimore: The Crabitat. The center of not one, but two dead gods in the form of the Olde One and The Shelled One, Kramer yearned to get a chance to scour the fields for materials. Eventually ze took matters into zir own hands, and broke in the dead of night.

Naturally Yurts Trunbo was quick to catch on to the interloper, but instead of turning zer hover to the city council, Trunbo instead elected to recruit zer into the staff of the Crabitat, and tasked Kramer with assisting with the various ballpark cleanups funded by the fans of the Crabs. In exchange ze was allowed to take home the various bits and pieces that ze found in the process. This arrangement suited them both niceley, and left Kramer with enough spare time to work on zer main project - the Arm of God.

The Arm of God

When Kramer chose the name “Zeruel” it was in specific reference to its root meaning to reference zir ongoing project, and arguably zir life’s work, a replacement arm that ze could use to expand what people thought of when they imagined an arm. When the Crabs returned to the ILB, ze found particular inspiration in the work that Pedro Davids had done for Adalberto Tosser, and began scavenging the stadium for things that ze could use to improve it, eventually ending up with fallen pieces of the mural that Sutton Dreamy had build for Combs Duende amongst other inspirations. It was during one such excivision where Kramer found themselves turned around and accidentally entered the tunnels under the Crabitat quickly becoming lost in the dark. Eventually ze was guided back by an unknown figure, but they were gone by the time it was light enough to see who it was.

Finally when ze took a chance trying to scavenge parts off of the remains of the Chorby Soul III replica, the Crabs were looking for a new player to replace the fallen replica. Kramer was quick to volunteer for a chance to be able to get a better look at the pitchers in the ILB, and gain access to Tosser and Davids’ work, showing of zir prototype arm. Luckily the Clawricle took one look at zir and insisted that ze bat instead, which worked out much better for everyone. While Kramer was quick to request to bat cleanup, Kennedy Loser patiently reminded him that “that doesn’t mean what you think it means”.

Sidetracked

Upon joining the Crabs, Kramer was quickly enthralled with many of the strange people ze found zemselves with, but none were quick so quick to pull zem in as Alston Cerveza who’s antics Kramer immediately got caught up in while admiring his gyrocopter, and then being accidently pulled into a high speed, death defying chase as Cerveza had to make a quick exit. Since that fateful day Kramer has become a recurring figure in some of Cerveza’s adventures, and enjoys the experience immensely - often stopping to invent a new gadget or gizmo to save the day out of scraps and bits of whatever other inventions are nearby. In zer time in Baltimore ze has also been working on “escape room” like training exercises for Hops to keep him in practice, and Hops will often end up competing alongside Crab Scott to either get the best time, or to find ways to break apart Kramer’s courses. As Kramer spent more time in Baltimore’s second hand market, ze found zirself acquiring many strange things to be later reused in sculptures. Unbeknownst to zir, this also meant that ze had gained a growing collection of small pieces of spirits, ghosts, and tiny snippets of gods that clung to the material things ze brought back to zir workshop. While Kramer was completely oblivious to this detail, ze did often find that when working with these materials ze was particularly inspired, and could put them together in ways that ze wasn’t expecting to create what ze described as some of zir best work.

Eventually Kramer’s friends and occultists Axel Campbell and Enid Marlow visited Kramer’s workshop when ze wasn’t present with the intent to do something about the buildup of unknown energy only to discover it was “haunted as shit” and decided that “whatever ZK is doing is probably working just fine actually”.

The Event Horizon

Kramer considered zirself good at handling most challenges that came zir way, however when the end of the world began ze found zirself a little out of zir depth. When the team announced that they would be going directly into the maw of the event horizon, and not towards the safety of the vault, ze did not take it well. With Pedro Davids planning his own trip to the vault, Kramer began to assist in the effort, working to build a ship that could take the two of them to safety once they got the team where they wanted to go. However on Day 79 when the Pies were nullified Davids and Kramer realized they no longer had until the end of the season, but that they could be nullified at any moment.

With this realization, Kramer took stock of zir work and personal philosophies, and tried to unpack zir feelings. After spending a night in the Crabitat they emerged deciding that they did not need to survive the end of the world, ze just needed to make sure someone who did could remember zir. Entrusting that responsibility to Davids, the two of them adjusted their plans into a single passenger vessel, and as the Blackhole (blackhole) approached Kramer pushed the vehicle into action and watched Davids disappear into the distance. In the moments before the Crabs were Nullified, Kramer tried to remember if ze had pushed with zir organic arm, zir prosthetic “Arm of God”, or both.

Answering the Call on the Red Line

Not long ago Zeruel Kramer was an average resident of DC catching the last train home on the red line with zer homemade sword, when suddenly it burst into flames and spoke to zem with the voice of an angelic presence (the sword, not the red line this time). The sword professed that Kramer had been chosen to be it’s champion in the contest of the gods, and it was zer sworn duty to uphold this fight as long as ze lived. Kramer thought on this only momentarily before agreeing, since it seemed like a solid juncture between zer passions for splorts, craftsmanship, and a functional public transit system. To aid zer in zer mission Kramer built a set of elaborating stained-glass esque wings fashioned from discarded scrap in the area (and updated zer prosthetic arm to match) and stalked the streets at night looking for a way to further zer mission. Alas, Kramer found that even with zer “sick new look” whatever the angel was spurring them on to do did not come easily, ze needed something more direct.

Spurred on by this revelation, Kramer traveled to Baltimore to try and learn more about their god-fighting history. With both the death of The Olde One and The Shelled One taking place in the Crabitat it seemed like a natural place to begin zer search. Kramer began frequenting games, and even befriended the Crabitat’s groundskeeper, Yurts Trunbo by providing home-made scrap art and novelty crab swag to sell at the gift shop. Finally after attending a season’s worth of games, Kramer was there to witness the death of Chorby Soul III and knew (because zer sword helpfully insisted) that this was zer moment, and ze took up a place on the Baltimore Crabs.

Artistic Inspirations

Upon joining the Crabs, Kramer found zemsleves very interested in the work of crabs veterans Pedro Davids and Adalberto Tosser. Davids had designed and built an arm for Tosser while the Crabs were ascended, and the eye-catching design was something that drew Kramer in immediately. Ze never missed a chance to compare notes on projects, and Davids was happy to chat with zer about zer latest work, commenting that “Ze is way easier to deal with than that last guy. Similarly, upon hearing of Tosser’s art career, Kramer began asking about seeing some of the work he did to get kicked out of the Maryland Institute College of Art. While Tosser’s reaction was mostly one of embarrassment, he did eventually show off some of his older sketches which Kramer was delighted by.

Strangely enough their experiences with the enthusiastic Kramer have brought both Davids and Tosser closer together after a tumultuous return to the ILB. With Kramer often running between the two to compare notes, it’s become common enough to have all three of them simply talking shop in Kramer’s spare workshop in the Crabitat. In zir time in Baltimore, Kramer became a frequent sight at old storage lockers being sold off, local scrap yards, and various junk sales. While Kramer was a jovial teammate in most cases, teammates describe zir as “surprisingly ruthless” in getting zir hands on the best materials for zir work. Kramer seemed to often bring company to these sales, having been seen with Adalberto Tosser (making use of his reach and bargaining skills), Montgomery Bullock (being generally intimidating to bystanders) and in one instance Jessica Telephone (who ze used as a distraction to keep other people away from the best finds while they were trying to get a selfie with her). Bullock in particular seemed to enjoy these bouts as they were about to pick up new dolls for their collection, a hobby that both Kramer and Bullock shared. The two never came at odds over this because while Kramer enjoyed finding good parts and joint flexibility and detail work in zir dolls, Bullock was delighted with basically anything they found.

Origins

When the Crabs began their second round of ballpark cleanups, Yurts Trunbo was quick to task his assistant with once again scouring the grounds of the Crabitat for foul balls, fish, and peanut shells. Rather than go through this a second time, Yurts’ assistance instead acquired a state of the art clearing robot that was put to work cleaning up the stadium. However as it cleaned the park it discovered fragments of the falling stars that had landed on the field many seasons ago, and after it picked up those shards and stored them in it’s chassi, something about the little robot seemed to change.

The first thing that changed was that the robot had a name now - Zeruel Kramer. The second thing that changed was that the staff of the crabitat began to find small statues and sculptures set up around the Crabitat that were made of snack wrappers and peanut shells. It was when Trunbo found the small statues in his collection of memorial pearls, with each statue made in honour of the player whose ashes the pearls were made from - and then he realized that this was no longer a simple cleaning robot that they were dealing with.

With Kramer’s newly discovered sentience, Yurts and his assistant encouraged zem to get involved with the Crabs that ze had been honouring with those statues by trying out for the team. While zer pitching arm was atrocious, ze was an admirable batter and quickly made the cut after the incineration of the replica Chorby Soul III. In celebration Kramer created small statues for each of the players as gifts.

A Like-Minded Presence

Kramer first met Crab’s pitcher Montgomery Bullock when ze was attempting to clean up the Crabitat and came upon a suit of old armour covered in barnacles from it’s trip to Atlantis. Kramer was startled when the armour stirred into action as ze attempted to clean Bullock off, but after the two of them cleared up the misunderstanding they could often be found in the Crabitat together, with Kramer asking Bullock about all the people that had inhabited him, and learning all about their stories. Eventually Kramer’s small scrap sculptures started to be sent to people of Montgomery County who had played games with Bullock with a small thank-you card signed by Bullock and Kramer.

As Kramer spent more time in the Crabitat, ze became very interested in the process of making pearls that the Crabs underwent when a player was incinerated. Kramer asked Tumbo about the process several times and managed to get some practical instructions on the process, but it wasn’t until some late nights staying in zir workshop when ze really started to understand the process. While the large clam that actually made the pearls was working overnight, Kramer was drawn to sit and observe it. Unbeknownst to zir, ze was not the only one watching over the clam - as that night, like any night there was work to be done, the ghost of a long passed member of the another team kept an eye on the process that she had invented long ago. That night she watched Kramer as well, and when ze returned the next night, and every other night that she was working, Kramer began to feel a sense of familiarity and history there - gaining a deeper understanding of the process, and why it was done alongside how it was done. Though Kramer was never able to see this ghost, it became a familiar presence as ze worked.
