Blood, Beak, and Bone

When Nagomi McDaniel arrived in Baltimore after York’s death she was in search of a specialist. With their resident diabolist Baldwin Breadwinner recently transferred (again), Nagomi was preparing to look elsewhere when she happened upon the Crab’s newest arrival, Enid Marlow. Enid had recently been traded from the Ohio Worms and was known among her peers as a talented witch. Seeing Nagomi’s plight, she offered her services to assist in returning York to the mortal coil.

The details of the pacts Enid made are UNKNOWN. The entities that Enid bargained with are UNKNOWN . The protections that Enid included in this deal are UNKNOWN. Once the bargain was completed, one day she was a part of the Crabs’ Roster, and the next she was a memory to most, lost in the Shadows where she patiently awaits her return to the game. And that same day York Silk returned to play, having never even met the one who took him from the Hall of Flames.

But what has been taken must be someday returned. Enid PAID her price to the shadows, and York will PAY his debts as well. Only time will tell what those costs will be for the rest of the league.

Traversing the Depths

Upon arriving in Baltimore York decided to take the direct approach - ignoring the many warnings of locals, signs posted nearby, and layers of caution tape between himself and the Chesapeake bay to attempt and communicate directly with the Olde One. Had he listened to some he might have learned that the Olde One was a capricious beast, just as likely to tell him off as to appreciate his forwardness. Others might have said that she was not to be disturbed, and needed to be contacted through the proper channels after months of meditation and learning. Some would have warned him that she was dead. Instead he nearly interrupted her weekly confluence with other nearby entities|.

In the solitude of the bay the two discussed many things. York had questions; about what happened to Nagomi all those years ago, about Carcinizatoin, about his newly acquired debt, and about what exactly she was. The Crab Mother responded that

Firstly, that was a personal question and she would not comment.

Secondly, Carcinization is the process by which all things eventually Become Crabs.

Lastly, his debt was not her department.

While disappointed by the answers, York did make a point of asking about his own carcinization, and how that would work to which the Crab Mother only smiled (as much as a long-dead crab god can smile) and told him that despite many misconceptions about the process it was up to him. And that no matter the form it’s always up to the person who chooses it.

York decided he would sleep on it.
