National Park Service Standardized Irregularity Report

Documenting Researcher: Researcher Fairfax

Irregularity Designation: YS-627 ("The Path Bug")

Irregularity Class: Invasive

Park Management Protocol:

  • Park guests are instructed to remain on marked trails, roads, and viewing platforms at all times.
  • Standard beetle population control techniques such as pheromone baiting and sanitation harvesting have proven effective at containing YS-627 populations.
  • Park rangers stationed near YS-627 populations or assigned to population control operations should be re-assigned for a minimum of REDACTED to minimize chances of sensitization and allow for recovery from minor reactions.

Irregularity Description: YS-627 is a species of REDACTED originating from REDACTED. Though it bears a passing resemblance to D. ponderosae (the mountain pine beetle) it has several distinctive blue spots on the underside of its thorax, is about twice as long (~1cm), and has longer antennae. Unlike D. Ponderosae, specimens of YS-627 are known to clear linear sections of ground cover, creating areas that resemble game trails in their wake through infested areas.

Several small-scale infestations of YS-627 have been observed in Yellowstone National Park, which are kept under careful observation to prevent further spread of the invasive species. However, YS-627 has proven resistant to eradication techniques for reasons unknown.

Moreover, many people, especially those known to participate in the splort of Blaseball or from alternate realities, experience deleterious side effects when in proximity to populations of YS-627. These symptoms include but are not limited to depression, loss of coordination, and muscle atrophy. Symptoms persist for up to REDACTED after manifesting, though sufficient palliative care may reduce recovery time to a few months.

Additional Notes:

  • Interactions between YS-627 and YS-178 have not been observed. In the event that YS-178 manifests in an area infested by YS-627, evacuate all personnel and guests to a minimum distance of 3 miles and wait for remote observation to confirm the manifestation has faded.
  • Additional reports on a potential mass exposure during the Season 21 elections are currently being drafted and will be available at the NPS Office of Incidents and Recovery after REDACTED/REDACTED/20REDACTED
