Documenting Researcher: Doctor Weldai

Irregularity Designation: YS-015 (“The Forest”)

Irregularity Class: Native?

Park Management Protocol:

  • Do Not Enter The Forest....

Irregularity Description:

  • The Forest defies description. All NPS written knowledge of The Forest is contained within these pages. Follow all proper NPS Guidelines for volatile material or report failure to Doctor Weldai directly.

Deep within Yellowstone National Park (parkpark) lies The Forest of the Recordkeeper. This forest contains many different Groves, each used by The Recordkeeper to record different types of info. The purpose of most Groves is unknown. Rangers speculate wildly on what data each Grove is tracking. However, with time and effort, a few groves have been identified. The most famous of these Groves is Blaseball Grove. The Forest of the Recordkeeper, when viewed from above, is in the shape of a wizard hat. The trees of each Grove, when viewed from above, are in the shape of a star.

Groves

Each Grove within The Forest is assigned a YS-015 Sub-Irregularity Distinction. When Speaking of a Grove, use only the Sub-Irregularity Distinction outside this documentation. Memorization of each Grove's Sub-Irregularity Distinction is Required.

Blaseball Grove

YS-015.G.01

Blaseball Grove consists of exactly 100 trees, each one carved with one possible end-of-regular season record for the Magic, from 0-99 to 99-0. At the end of a season, the tree matching the team’s result is found fallen on its side. Park Rangers who have entered Blaseball Grove to clean up The Fallen Tree in the past have noted that, unlike trees elsewhere that have rings, trees from Blaseball Grove have Blaseball Diamonds when you cut them open. It is suspected, but unconfirmed, that if you cut the tree in correctly-sized slices from bottom to top, each one would be marked for a different play during the season, as though the tree is doing the scorekeeping for the season itself. The day before a season begins, a new tree appears in the place of the previous year’s Fallen Tree, identical in size, shape, and appearance to the previous tree.

Nomad Grove

YS-015.G.06

In 1986, a small Grove was spotted for the first time in the central area of the Forest. The next day, it had disappeared. Three days later, an identical-looking Grove appeared in the remote parts of the Northwest area of the Forest. The next day, it disappeared again, before reappearing three days later in another part of the Forest. This behavior repeated several times, leading to the descriptor “Nomad Grove.” It is recommended to avoid entering Nomad Grove, as we do not know where it is located during the days it cannot be found within the Forest. Enter at your own risk.

Party Grove

YS-015.G.14*

This Grove is impossible to view from the outside. Rings of trees obscure visibility. The only hint of Grove G.14's proximity is a low, rhythmic thumping. Upon a being entering the Grove, the thumping immediately transforms into the type of music that being is most inclined to react favorably to. Simultaneously, the outer rings of trees begin pulsing various colors in sync with the music. Occasionally, the trees expel an odd confetti-like material which we have observed forest animals excitedly consuming before we have an opportunity to collect it for analysis. In the center of the Grove lies a body of water of unknown depth. Ranger Amplio once attempted to measure the depth of this body of water and has not been heard from since. Ranger Grove

YS-015.G.15

Most of the specifics of Ranger Grove are unknown. Nobody goes into Ranger Grove. One day in 1992, two Rangers had made a bet about the data recorded in Grove G-15 and took a small excursion out to it. They never returned. The next day, those counting the trees in the Grove from afar counted two fewer. Since this incident, Rangers have learned a few things about this Grove. Ranger Grove grows a new sapling when someone destined to become a Ranger is born. This tree stands throughout a Ranger's life and remains even after a Ranger’s death. The only known instance of a decrease in trees in Ranger Grove is the Incident from 1992.

Feedback Grove

YS-015.G.22

One of the fastest Groves ever to have its data determined, a new Grove sprouted up at the beginning of Season β4. Rangers attempted to investigate before the season began, but a strange ringing in their ears as they looked in the Grove's direction was too disruptive and painful. However, on Day 4 of the season, a new tree appeared at full height. Two sigils were burned into the tree's trunk. A flame and a steak. Upon conferring with Rangers watching that day's Blaseball, it was determined that it must be in reference to the Feedback swap of Paula Mason and Thomas Kirby. This hypothesis was confirmed 11 days later, in the swap of Penelope Mathews and Alyssa Harrell, as the sigils in the new tree were clearly a telephone and a wizard hat. Trees continued to appear during each swap for the entirety of Season 4.

REDACTED Grove

YS-015.G.26

Rangers have attempted to communicate data on Grove G-26 in the past. It is imperative that you use no specifics if attempting to discuss it. All attempted written communication has been consumed by rapidly-growing REDACTED that quickly REDACTED. Ranger Verde attempted to speak of it to his Ranger mentors, but was REDACTED quickly. The two Rangers mentoring him on his first week could only look on in horror, unable to prevent him from REDACTED. Even this may be too much. Store it separately from our other files, just in case…

Grave Grove

YS-015.G.37

In some ways one of the more straightforward Groves, the Grave Grove is an old Quaking Aspen colony. The clone network of trees has shallow roots, hardly a foot deep, that absorb any corpses left within or around its edges. Once the bones are digested by the root network, a new tree typically sprouts from the location of the digested body. We are not yet certain of a reason for the exceptions, but it is suspected that the colony is a living repository of memories held within the trunks. Witnesses report seeing eyes in the bark and hearing whispers on the breeze, the most frequently reported whisper being, "we would like to see it." Ranger investigation corroborates the first part of these reports, as the eye-shaped knots in the tree trunks blink and shift toward movement. However, the trees have not vocalized in the presence of any investigating Rangers or recording devices.
