Template:Equipment...?

Hey there!

I saw you were trying to make a new Template, but it seemed like it was still unfinished. As such, I'm rejecting its submission to the main Template namespace at this time. Going forward, I recommend you try drafting your incomplete/experimental Templates as subpages for your User page (e.g. User:Chesse/Template:Equipment); when you're experimenting with them later, they work just like a normal Template, you just need to use the full page name (e.g. {{User:Chesse/Equipment}}). If your intent was to make a partial Template that someone else would complete, well, that assumes people know what you're trying to do & have the interest to finish it, and that starts getting into the second point of my post.

I'm a bit unclear on what you think is the use-case of this Template. You use the term "Rarity," but that's not a term that's used anywhere on blaseball.com. Additionally, the decision has already been made that we are making very limited records of Items on the Blaseball website, as they are replaced so frequently that they would be too much effort to record with little return (the exception being for items that seem to have some amount of plot importance, such as the two handed out as part of the tarot draw for the S17 Earlsiesta). With all this in mind, I'm not really sure what you're trying to do here. Further communication with the wiki team, either through the main Discord or through messages on here, helps a lot when you're trying to make Templates, especially ones that engage with such central mechanics as Items.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Oh okay i did not know i could put drafts as a sub page on my userpage. Was trying to see if i could try and learn to make item pages that look as good as work as well as the ones on wikis for action rpgs since the items in blaseball seem to follow the same sort of formatting of prefixes, suffixes. Rarity was just a field that could be made to list how many suffixes and prefixes there are.

I'd like to write pages on some of the items because they seem fun to write lore for and draw fan art of, like trying to write what a "brambly necklace of blaserunning" would look like.

Hm. Well, I can say outright that we don't want individual Item pages for any of the Items present in the ILB. While you are correct that ARPG wikis like the Dark Souls wiki will have individual pages for items, they also have a very different context for items; in Dark Souls, there are a limited number of items, they appear in the same places, and they have lore independent of the player character who wields them. In Blaseball, however, Items are randomly generated using a selection of prefixes and suffixes, and there is no evidence at this time that the Items persist or have any significance outside of the players who wield them.

With all that said, we recognize your desire to write lore about or make fanart of Items. Considering these Items only gain significance in the context of a player, we think Item lore should thus be added to its wielder's player page. This would be a major change like any other narrative beat, and as such would need to go through our normal Talk page process, but could be added to player pages however you deem appropriate. In this context, however, we would not want an infobox summarizing the Item, as it would unduly clutter the Community Reports sections. Your proposed Template:Equipment is thus unnecessary for this wiki. We look forward to seeing what you write about Items, though!
