Una Manhattan

Early Life

Una Manhattan is a Cuban person born on a sheep farm in upstate New York, working with her family to tend to the animals. However, Manhattan grew restless in the quiet life of the countryside. She dreamed of a bigger life in a bigger city; though often reminisces on her old home. “Quiet isn’t something you get often in Blaseball.” Ze would answer with a look over hir shoulder. Reporters would often spot Eddie Mulberry leading a chant at this comedically convenient moment.

Though hesitant, Una Manhattan moved out to New York City once ze reached zir early 20s. Ze began hir transition here and found a sparked interest in the splort of Blaseball.

Joining The Splort

Una Manhattan was a part of the Yellowstone Magic when she joined; but remained in their shadows for all of her duration there. During Fall Ball, Manhattan fell down to the Miami Dale, along with many other new players, with a new season up ahead.

Manhattan met Serge Shortvat (a known rival of the previously shadowed player) in the Miami Dale. Many have seen playful jabs exchanged between the two during games, and the rivals became close throughout the initial season. Towards the end of Season 1, Shortvat finally admitted to a relationship between the two as fans theorized and debated heavily on this status. The pair were soon after spotted on a double date with fellow teammates Lottie Yoshida and Eddie Mulberry, confirming the alleged romance.

Una Manhattan has mentioned many of her friends during postgame interviews and seems to have a good relationship with her teammates. Eddie Mulberry and Manhattan can be spotted doing something known as “parallel play” - completing separate activities in the same space.

Alternation

Una Manhattan was subject to the Season 1 blessing “NEW Randomize Players”, in which alternates were called for the team’s five worst players. Manhattan was seen staring up to the Black Hole as the blessing was won by the Miami Dale. She was soon swapped through universes along with three of zir teammates; Eddie Mulberry, Edric Tosser, and Serge Shortvat.

Post-alternation, Una Manhattan is a fire elemental who is constantly aflame. The only time hir entire body is not on fire is when ze is standing still, though her hair remains aflame even then. This has confused many outsiders, who point to hir hat as proof that she cannot possibly be made entirely of fire, as the top of her head would burn the hat up if ze was. When questioned about this apparent paradox, Manhattan only replied, "Huh? Why would a hat catch fire?"

Sources claim Manhattan leaves scorch marks on balls she pitches. An investigation into this phenomenon has failed to link this to hir increased pitching performance post-alternation.

Aftermath Of Blessing

During Fall Ball and Season 1, Eddie Mulberry had roomed with Una Manhattan and Serge Shortvat in their apartment. However, in the aftermath of NEW Randomize Players, Mulberry was reported to become increasingly irritable and was overheard complaining about a lack of sleep after Shortvat continuously shocked the lights back on.

At the start of Season 2, Mulberry moved out to live with fellow teammate and girlfriend Lottie Yoshida. Una Manhattan was notably quiet during games for a few days following and keen-eyed reporters noted Mulberry and Manhattan’s lack of interaction. Fortunately, the two seemed to overcome this hurdle and seemed to be getting along just as before.

Una Manhattan is often seen stopping bickering between teammates Eddie Mulberry and Serge Shortvat. Manhattan has neglected to comment on this and has left interviews when questioned. Shortvat has done similar, and Mulberry pushes by any questions on this conflict. Miami Dale fans hope that these are simply playful jabs and not any lack of team morale or difficulty.
