Update: Receiver, Echo, Static

1
Waveridden (talkcontribs)

The following would be added after the "tasting the infinite" section:

Quitter spent most of the following seasons keeping their head down and trying to stay out of sight. This plan was blown to smithereens in the Season 14 seasonal reading, when Quitter became a Receiver. However, there were no immediate consequences, and the Lift were cautiously optimistic.

In the Season 14 Latesiesta, Wyatt Mason localized to the lineup of the Lift. Despite lingering anxieties, Quitter immediately adopted Mason. The two of them could be seen exploring Tokyo and skateboarding together.

On Day 79, Quitter received the Echo modification from Mason, putting them at risk of echoing into static in the same manner as the other Wyatt Masons. Quitter didn’t blame her. Mason herself echoed into static only two days later. Quitter grieved quietly, and was publicly outspoken about her love for Mason.

Quitter themself echoed into Static on the last day of season, alongside Wyatt Mason VI. Their absence has been felt by all of their teammates and friends.

Crosspost from Goodwin Morin

Waveridden (talkcontribs)

Quitter is mentioned in a lore update for Goodwin Morin: TLDR is that they have a weird semi-rivalry because of differing outlooks, and while they try to be friendly they can't quite be friends.

A summary of the lore changes that I propose based on the art of Fancymancer

Summary by Inumo

The proposal has been considered by many community members, and consistently rejected by those members (including the artist the proposer drew inspiration from). We're locking this thread to prevent continued argument.

Further moderation actions:

  • Marty(2) has been banned, primarily for repeated violation of explicit boundaries amounting to harassment of another user.
  • Moderators have deleted posts at the request of Fancymancer to preserve professional privacy.
Marty2 (talkcontribs)

To Community Reports: 1) Personal Relationships: a)Sexuality - Bi b)Partners - Wyatt Pothos, Mcdowell Mason, Allison Abbott, Stijn Strongbody, fitzgerald blackburn, raul leal and many more. c)Girlfriends - Wyatt Pothos d)Boyfriends - Mcdowell Mason

2)Other Background Information: Likes - boyfriend, girlfriend, blaseball, friends, teammates, people, being fit, being sexy, having fun

And to add a trivia section where it will be written: "Quitter is a Chinese American nonbinary-polyamorous person.

That's all.

Marty2 (talkcontribs)

First thing first, let's see if someone has an objection to the changes in Quitter's page.

Inumo (talkcontribs)

Well, that's just it: this change also affects how those characters are interpreted, regardless of whether or not this content gets put onto those pages. Per our contribution policies, proposed relationships should be cross-posted to those other players' pages. This is to prevent repeats of historic conflicts where editors have written a relationship on one player's page that surprised & discomfited editors that cared about the other player in the alleged relationship.

To be clear, if you would like to wait and see if editors interested in Wyatt Quitter have objections first, then cross-post & wait for an additional 24 hours, then perform the update, that's fine, but you'll need to do the cross-post before any of this gets applied to Wyatt Quitter's page proper.

Marty2 (talkcontribs)

I'm not in a hurry and as you can see, I've got an uphill battle here.

Mangomancer (talkcontribs)

Hello! As a fan of the Miami Dale, I am chiming in to say that I do not feel comfortable with the mention of Raúl Leal on this page, mainly because 1, This has not been discussed with any other Dale fans and 2, placing it in the Community Reports section gives it a sense of being hard lore, which we try to avoid!

Quite frankly, this edit feels very much like it’s dulling Quitter down to their romantic relationships and how “sexy” and “hot” they are. That just personally makes me uncomfortable. Also, as you have stated, this edit is based off the work of Fancymancer. I believe, much like uploading art by others, explicit permission is needed when uploading lore based on someone else’s content. As such, I personally am not a fan of uploading this to Quitter’s page.

YourGenderHere (talkcontribs)

Speaking in a nonofficial capacity as a Spies fan I'm against any changes to Fitzgerald Blackburn's wiki page pursuant to this idea. Lore actively involving members of other teams is the kind of thing that the Spies would ordinarily call some level of consensus for; as far as I know we've never seriously discussed lore for Fitzgerald and Wyatt being involved with each other amongst ourselves much if at all, let alone with the Tacos or Lift.

To whatever extent the wiki page for Fitz should embody the lore that Spies fans and those actively collaborating with Spies fans have made for Fitz, this doesn't fit.

Fancy (talkcontribs)

Hello everyone! Fancymancer here.

I'd like to publicly state that I am also uncomfortable with these changes to the wiki. Some of which reference private headcanons, jokes, or silly lore shared among friends or in spaces not intended for the larger blaseball community.

I'd like to go on the record and state that any proposed lore updates to the wiki based on my own work will be submitted by me and not through any third party.

Marty, I don't know you, but if you would like to discuss this further you are free to message me directly.

Elifinch (talkcontribs)

Frankly Marty, I don't think any of us need to engage with you in good faith when this seems to be the second account you've created to try to push these changes through, presumably to get around a ban you earned.

Inumo (talkcontribs)

Mod stepping in to say we didn't ban the original account. I don't know why they chose to make the Marty2 account, but please do not use that as a justification to assume the proposal was not made in good faith.

Dönerpreisbremsengegner (talkcontribs)

with how theres been edits to this wiki page for months now adding stuff based on content by fancy that they have made clear they are uncomfortable with sharing in this space plus the general conduct of the person in question i do think assuming good faith is a mistake as even as someone from the outside of this situation this seems to me like a clear case of someone hiding behind the faintest shred of plausible deniability to use the wiki as a tool for harassment

LaserMessiah (talkcontribs)

Speaking on behalf of the Firefighters here, while Mcdowell Mason has only been on our team for 2 seasons the current page for Mcdowell Mason does not mention Wyatt Quitter at all despite having an entire section for friendships and romantic partnerships, so this doesn't appear to be a supported interpretation for the Tacos.

In addition, the Firefighters have had issues in the past with people unilaterally assigning relationships to our players and putting them on the wiki pages of players on other teams. If this was a pre-existing relationship agreed to by the common interpretation of the Tacos, this wouldn't be an issue, but since it is not, we do not support this being added to either page.

Aquelon (talkcontribs)

As a Tacos fan active in wiki writing, I am seconding LaserMessiah and everyone else here that neither Mcdowell and Quitter, nor the vast majority of those other listed Quitter ships, are the general consensus, and even if this was a good-faith addition I would still be rather opposed to adding them to the infobox for that reason.

NautALoid (talkcontribs)

As a Lift fan active on Lift wiki pages, I'm seconding the concerns many have brought up about this addition seeming to be in bad faith. This is the second time you have tried to add this information to the wiki and you have fixed none of the errors despite having a second chance to catch them. The sporadic capitalization of names in the list of Quitter's proposed relationships makes this seem like an almost intentionally low-effort edit, it's hard to believe someone who earnestly wants to contribute to a page would fail to catch the errors after the second time typing these names out.

Most of the information you suggest adding to the Community Reports section does not belong there. If you are still planning on using the same formatting you implemented a month ago, it is very unwieldy, without adding much of note. The long rambling list of "likes" doesn't illuminate anything about Quitter's personality or character in a meaningful way and could be cut out entirely. It can be assumed that under most circumstances, people like their partners. Quitter plays blaseball, though I suppose it's less of a given that people enjoy playing in a blood sport. Being fit and being sexy obviously fit into your subjective comments about finding art of Quitter sexy, and I think you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn't like having fun, as that's kind of inherent to the whole concept of, well, having fun. Additionally, the distinction of Quitter's proposed relationships (many of which have already had objections raised by other teams) as "boyfriend," "girlfriend," and "partners" is frankly perplexing, and raises questions as to what metric you've used to distinguish them.

I do think that explicitly noting Quitter's ethnicity would be great for a future edit, but as I feel uncomfortable with so much about this proposed update, I'd personally rather save that addition for the future when it's not tied to all these other changes, and hopefully integrate it into the entry in a more thoughtful way than tacked onto the end of the page in a trivia section.

And of course, most importantly, you explicitly don't have the permission of Fancymancer for any of the updates you're doing in his name.

Fan (talkcontribs)

Speaking not as a representative of any team but as someone who has been monitoring and chipping into this discourse for a good while now, there are many glaring problems with this edit request regardless of whether or not it was made in good faith. As an observer of the issues that have cropped up over the last few months regarding the player, it’s very much clear that this is a continuation of the lasting discourse surrounding Wyatt Quitter’s blatant sexualization among certain Blaseball spaces. This in a vaccuum is fine and fans have a right to act however they would like regarding players in private spaces, but a situation such as this where that leaks into the greater fandom is unacceptable for multiple reasons, many of which have already been mentioned by others.

You have made your affection towards Quitter’s design known in the content of your posts, and the general focus on Quitter’s sexuality and relationships in this request is a very clear reflection of that. This obviously does not line up with wiki policy, as Wyatt Quitter’s romantic life should likely be left to fanfiction and lore writers to figure out on their own without the pressure of a wiki page dictating which relationships are more “canon” than others. And that’s not even mentioning the clear lack of endorsement from team representatives for the players you’ve chosen to highlight, and it’s also worth noting that very few of these relationships actually seem to be featured in Fancy’s public artwork like you claim they are.

In addition, Blaseball is not a community that should allow the boiling down of characters to their sexual appeal, as doing this to a popular design like Quitter’s not only puts estremely mysoginistic practices on a pedestal by nature but also once again opens the door for non-binary erasure, as has been a past concern itself in edits to Quitter’s page. Even though you have called Quitter non-binary on the wiki entry, you seemingly insist on exclusively using she/her to refer to them regardless of their accepted set of pronouns as are marked on the wiki page. Regardless of what headcanon or design we go off of when adding player lore to the wiki, focusing on superficial factors such as one’s body and conventional attractiveness is never acceptable.

Aside from the aspect of sexualization, the idea of Quitter’s lore being grounded in the art of Fancymancer is just as dangerous. While Fancy’s art may be the foundation of many others’ headcanons of the character, fans should be encouraged to have unique perspectives on players in the spirit of Blaseball, regardless of which interpretations are most popular. Fancy has also very clearly stated that he wants nothing to do with your so-called representation of his headcanons and designs, and I’m astounded that this notion on its own doesn’t end the discussion completely.

All in all, it’s truly shameful that this is the legacy that a character so beloved by the greater community has left behind. Marty, I sincerely encourage you to rethink your values and how they align with what you’ve attempted to add to the wiki page, and I wish you the best.

Blasketball Coach (talkcontribs)

Spies fan here, i don't really see why we would need to specify one's romantic/sexual relationships in the wiki. I'm not that much of a wiki person but a pairing with Fitz seems odd, since wyatt quitter shelled Denzel Scott.

So a super sexy fanart of Quitter is ok, but...

6
Marty2 (talkcontribs)

Information about her personal relationships, what she likes and about the fact that she's a chinese American nonbinary polyamorous character - for pride month, all based on the art of the character's creator, that's not ok? The super sexy fanart that I refer to of course is "Three of Swords".

Please don't use this as an excuse to take down the super sexy art.

Sav (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure what you mean by "art of the character's creator," given the character was created by a computer program. However, the contribution policies hold regardless of month; notably, that a particular interpretation of a character depicted in fan art is neither definitive nor a sufficient basis for superceding said policies. I promise we are not trying to be dismissive of the interpretation of this character that you are interested in; rather, we have spent two years mediating a platform on which those interpretations and interests have conflicted and have tried our best to find a set of procedures most conducive to the nature of noncanonical fan lore. I'd also ask that any further discussion find a more appropriate tone, as your opinions of said art are not relevant. If you need any help with future contributions and which policies might be important, please feel free to DM a mod.

Pokeylope (talkcontribs)

To be clear, these things are allowed on the wiki:

  • Information about personal relationships
  • Discussion of a character's likes
  • Chinese-American nonbinary polyamorous characters
  • Celebrating pride month
  • Sexy fan art (within reason)

This is not allowed:

  • Making lore-related changes to a character's page without discussing it with the community

Before making these changes, we simply ask that you post a summary to the character's talk page and allow other fans to weigh in. After 24 hours, as long as there are no objections or a consensus has been reached, then you are free to make the changes.

As mentioned previously, the wiki's contribution policies explain this process in detail, as well as the reasons why these rules exist.

Marty2 (talkcontribs)

Hah. I thought that with all the Wyatt Quitter art of Fancymancer and his love for the character, that The Game Band hired him to create a popular character to promote the game and he created Quitter. So Quitter don't belong to Fancymancer? All of his art of the character considered to be fan art? And everything that appears in his Blaseball art is considered to be noncanonical fan lore?

Pokeylope (talkcontribs)

That's correct; Fancymancer isn't affiliated with TGB, and all of his art is simply his interpretation. All information on the wiki about character appearances, personalities, relationships, etc. is non-canon and created by the community. See Help:What is Canon? for more details.

Sav (talkcontribs)

This is correct, there is no official visual depiction of any Blaseball player.

Marty (talkcontribs)

All the recent changes that I've made are based on the art of Fancymancer.

Inumo (talkcontribs)

Edits have been rolled back, and I left a further note that I'll reiterate here: lore edits must adhere to our contribution policies regardless of source. Additionally, Fancymancer's art is not a priori definitive for this wiki page.

Marty (talkcontribs)

OMG! Most of us are kids! This is a wiki about a game! Is this a legal document?? Do you expect us to read all of that and memorize it??? Anyway I asked from Fancymancer permission to Upload to the pages of the three characters, some of his drawings in which the characters show love for each other. Is there a problem with that?

Inumo (talkcontribs)

Mm, you must be new here, so let me clear up some misconceptions.

1) To be brief: "most of us are kids" is factually incorrect. Additionally, since we cannot determine who is a minor and who is an adult without compromising people's safety, we treat all users as though they are adults, with all the responsibilities that entails.

2) This wiki is 100% volunteer-run. The contribution policies evolved because people got into huge fights, and we had to lay out stricter ground rules to prevent future conflicts from escalating to the same degree. One component of many of those arguments was people overriding other people's contributions, or imposing character features that people didn't want. Thus, there is a protocol for how to propose new character features – including relationships being added to players' pages. You don't have to memorize it (that's why it's on a public page, after all), but you should read it to get a general sense of our expectations of you.

3) Asking for permission is not the same as receiving permission, so: yes, there is a problem, and that problem is you still don't have permission. Additionally, even if you did have permission, and did put those pictures onto the players' wiki pages, that doesn't mean those relationships can be documented on this wiki while evading the contribution policy. People using fan art to establish character features & relationships was, in fact, another part of why the contribution policies were developed.

4) Fancymancer is perfectly capable of uploading his own art, as you can see from his contributions page. In fact, it's considered best practice on this wiki to have artists upload their own work. This is because we have had conflicts arise over art being uploaded by others; some of these conflicts have also contributed to the contribution policies in their own way. As such, please trust that Fancymancer will upload the work he wants uploaded, and that any work that isn't uploaded to the wiki is a deliberate choice.

Being part of any community is a responsibility; we have merely codified some of those responsibilities for everyone's benefit. I hope that you can take this as a learning experience and grow past this misstep, just as I did when I joined my first internet communities.

The Tokyo Adrift/nAUtical Lift

Spotter donut (talkcontribs)

Planning to add an IRM entry for Quitter as a crew member of The Tokyo Adrift. The IRM will not be installed on the main player page, instead the entry would be linked to in under a subheading "Alternative Interpretations" with a brief explanation of the pirate AU.

Jorb (talkcontribs)

Quitter being Static'd with Wyatt Mason VI should probably be mentioned, and "Static" added to modifications. I'd do it myself, but it seems the page is currently locked to admin edits only.

Will do, thank you

TASTING THE INFINITE

After tasting the infinite on Season 12, Day 37, Quitter's worst fears were confirmed. The power of the PODs was what they were striving for. They were devastated when, at bat against the Spies, they   another player- Denzel Scott. Suddenly, she knew that they had to stay out of the gym. She could not be allowed to continue using this power- even accidentally. Quitter was reportedly seen dodging questions after the game, running crying from the stadium and into the streets of Tokyo. The team has no further comments, and Quitter has since been seen at bat.

Glumbaron (talkcontribs)

I've said this in a bunch of places, but you're writing Wyatt Quitter to be basically Ryu struggling with the Satsui no Hado, and I think that's great

Elmonstro (talkcontribs)

I propose to expand this article to cover Quitter's time with the Shelled One's Pods and the Tokyo Lift. This would also mean some minor adjustments to the existing text, mostly covering tenses. The full text of the proposed new Lore section follows: this has also been shared with the Lift and the Tacos on their respective Discords.

Elmonstro (talkcontribs)

Early Life and Recruitment

Before joining the league, Quitter held a variety of jobs including carpenter, insurance salesperson, tarot reader, civil engineer, UX designer, bus driver, and chef. Though they excelled at many of these positions, they never developed a lasting career in any of those fields due to their propensity to quit after only a few weeks on the job. Their reasons for quitting are unknown, but it has been rumored that a family curse is the root cause. They were in the midst of applying for a position as a deli meat slicer at Ralphino's when they signed up for the community kickball league, marking the beginning of their blaseball career with the Los Angeles (later Unlimited) Tacos.

With the Unlimited Tacos

Despite being one of the statistically worst hitters on the team, Quitter consistently outperformed their abysmal star ranking with the combined power of plucky gumption and a dazzling smile. Though notably less of a diva than all the other players on the team, they were known for refusing to play with any bat not made of 100% pine.

Quitter was considered a vital part of the team from Day 1 regardless of the rumored curse, though there have been unconfirmed reports of Quitter attempting to quit the ILB. Quitter commented on the matter, saying "I don't want to quit. Never have. And even if I did, I wouldn't be able to. We all know incineration is the only way out."

Midway through Season 9, during a game at the Boston Flowers, Quitter was struck by a Big Peanut and became Shelled. This was a huge emotional blow for an already depleted team.

With THE SHELLED ONE'S PODS

The distress felt by teammates and fans alike was compounded on Season 9, Day X when Quitter took the field as a member of the Shelled One's team of press-ganged players. THE SHELLED ONE'S PODS easily defeated newly-crowned champions the Charleston Shoe Thieves and returned on Season 10, Day X to meet the Baltimore Crabs. This match was decided by the very first hit, with Quitter's almighty single reducing the Crabs' Spirit to -1504119; splorts journalists have called it "the shot that was heard around the Multiverse". Following their subsequent defeat by the Hall Stars, Quitter and their fellow PODS were Unshelled and scattered across the Material Plane.

With the Tokyo Lift

Shortly after this event, reports emerged that an unnamed person had been discovered in a shallow crater near Dilsneyland Tokyo, swaddled in papery peanut skin and clutching a 100% pine bat. Clearly traumatised by recent experiences, they were reluctant to engage with local authorities or even to make eye contact.

Quitter was recognised by a member of the public and their identity leaked on social media. The Tokyo Lift were quick to reach out; sometime physiotherapist Lance Serotonin used contacts in the healthcare system to offer the use of Legscraper facilities "while they recuperate and consider the next stage of their journey". Quitter cautiously accepted.

During the next few weeks Quitter spent much time in the Legscraper's weights room, taking on increasingly intense workouts in silence and often late at night. This culminated in an epic weights session with Nandy Slumps as spotter, during which the two did not exchange a single word for thirty-seven hours. On racking the barbell for the last time Quitter offered in a hoarse whisper the words "Quitter don't quit" and fell asleep in Slumps' arms. The following morning they arrived for team breakfast in full Tokyo Lift uniform and requested a position on the lineup.

Quitter was impressed by the positive attitude of the young team but concerned at the players' inexperience and tactical naivety (Slumps aside). As a veteran of the Internet League, Quitter was able to describe top-tier tactics, strategies, rivalries, alliances and outright scuttlebutt as captain Stijn Strongbody listened agog. His 700 pages of often self-contradictory notes have been condensed into a personal reference work he calls the Quitter Codex.

In an emotional pre-season video call to the Unlimited Tacos, Quitter thanked them for their friendship, their support and "all the memories" before explaining that "these newbies need me or they're gonna get eaten alive". A reunion followed on Season 11, Day 16 as the Lift began a six-match series in the Los Angeli.

They remain plucky and pugnacious, but this is tempered by a growing sense of responsibility. The Lift, and Strongbody in particular, have come to rely on Quitter's alertness to trick plays and their knowledge of individual opponents' strengths and idiosyncrasies. They are close to regular workout partner Slumps and peppy troublemaker Ayanna Dumpington. They also meet up when possible with former teammates Halexandrey Walton and Wyatt Pothos.

Cheers

Quitter don't quit Quitter Quitter/they're our hitter/hit or miss/we won't be bitter!
