Addition Regarding Shooting Down A Sun, among other things

Proposed addendum to Rey's lore:

Rearranging the last few sentences of the history section to better flow into an additional section

Rearranging the last few sentences of the history section to better flow into an additional section, maybe including her deal with Dollie?

Replacing the phrase "quaintly familiar" with a adverb-adjective pair that actually reflects her familiarity with the park's denizens ("closely acquainted," maybe?)

Add a new subheading for "batting for the Yellowstone Magic" discussing their decision to join the team and also that time they shot down Max Sun bc that was awesome.

(Will reply to this thread with the actual text of the revisions when I get them written up)

History

"Ruthless" Rey Wooten is a vicious cowpoke and vigilante bounty hunter operating within the forbidden zones of Yellowstone. When not on contract, they abide by their own code, and adhere to the Natural laws of Yellowstone. She is well acquainted with the park's less scrupulous denizens, its underbelly thieves and shadowy warlocks. She collects magical trophies and trinkets from her bounties, which she always puts to good use in her hunts.

Back in the Discipline Era, while still working in the shadows, Wooten took on their most formidable bounty; Oscar Dollie was wanted dead or alive. After hunting for days, Wooten captured Dollie, but ultimately decided to set it free. To this day, Dollie is the only creature she ever let go. They kept a piece of its horn as a memento.

It has been said that Wooten is here for three things: Recognition, Violence, and Victory.

Batting for the Yellowstone Magic

At the end of season 21, Wooten left the shadows and joined the Yellowstone Magic's batting lineup. She wielded a sawed-off bat with Dollie's horn embedded in it, which she named "Dollie Jr." Their ruthless and ambitious demeanor served the Magic well. Her greatest moment on the diamond was in season 24, when she proved her prowess as a sharpshooter by sniping Maximum Sun from the sky.

Proposals- Change to "Wooten took on their most formidable bounty: Oscar Dollie, wanted dead or alive." ("Oscar Dollie" linked to its player page, obv) It feels more natural to use in a dramatic sentence like that rather than a semicolon. It also feels like there's potential for a bit of expansion or speculation on *why* Rey decided to let it go, even if the answer ends up being "Wooten captured Dollie, but for unknown reasons decided to set it free". Or keeping it as is but adding "To this day, Dollie is the only creature she ever let go. If approached about the reasons behind this exception, both players decline to comment."

The "three things" sentence is good... Do you think it would work any better if it was the opening sentence? It's a solid attention-grabber and could provide some early context as to why they're called "Ruthless".

The sun sniping from s24 should definitely be specified, at least ("season 24, day 29, when she"). Linking the game from Before sounds like it would be helpful but is there a precedent for doing that? I know it's not, like, illegal, but it feels like a grey area. I haven't seen Before links in any other articles so I'm not sure if it's... allowed? Frowned upon?? Discouraged??

The tone for the "history" part feels fine since it's mostly about characterization rn but the Batting portion feels like it should (regretably) be drier/less biased. "Her greatest moment" could arguably be any moment and if we aren't including any further context about the game then "sniping" the Sun is too vague. It would be easier for readers who aren't familiar with that event/might not be able to access the game on Before to specify "In season 24 [link], day 29, she scored a 12-run home-run which resulted in the Nullification of the Maximum Sun[link] Modification. Notably, this was the first instance of a Sun being nullified by the Black Hole (Black Hole)[link]." If readers can't look at that and go "woah what thats such a badass moment" then thats on them /lh

These are some great notes!

I really like your description of the sun nullification, and I think there's a compromise to be found here between the dry objective wiki tone and the flavor of Rey shooting the sun out if the sky: I think your phrasing could go in the "league records" section, above the "community reports" banner, and then we could describe it with Flavor below.

I don't know if there is any precedent for linking to Before. If not maybe it's a precedent I'd like to set because I feel like it's a cool idea.

So true! Good idea for the compromise.

It's worth a shot! I checked the contribution rules & latest notes more thoroughly and "We want to follow your lead on how you want the wiki to evolve, and ensure you have the resources to get there." is quelling my Rules Anxiety around that. So heck yeah lets link to Before

"Ruthless" Rey Wooten (She/They) is a vicious cowpoke-slash-vigilante bounty hunter operating within the forbidden zones of Yellowstone. When not on contract, they abide by their own code, and adhere to the Natural laws of Yellowstone. She is quaintly familiar with the park's less scrupulous denizens; like its underbelly thieves and shadowy warlocks. She collects magical trophies and trinkets as part of her arsenal, and wields a sawed-off bat called 'Dollie Jr'. They're here for three things: Recognition, Violence, and Victory.
