Time With Fridays Update (1.5)

1
TectonicPlates (talkcontribs)

Posting Earthwing's write up of Lady's Fridays lore (see previous comment) with minor organization changes, and also adding a small section about the Semi-Centennial and season 24. Additionally some IRM restructuring and general clean up.

"Due to the sharing of Ego, Matsuyama was temporarily drafted into the Rising Stars with several other Friday’s, including Mitchell, Beck Whitney, and Nicholas Mora. She has continually refrained from commenting on her experience. After the Semi-Centennial, many fans have speculated about how difficult it must have been for her to not only be forced to face previous teammates and friends like James Mora, Valentine Games, Fletcher Berger (II) and Clare Ballard (III), but to eventually lose Mitchell and Mora to the Vault Legends as well. Regardless of inner thoughts, Matsuyama held her head high throughout. While Whitney did not return with her after the game, Matsuyama was the first Friday to welcome Parker MacMillan to the team and traveled back with him to Hawai’i after his extended time in the Vault. After her arrival, she also passed along many messages to teammates from those in the Vault, the contents of which have never been revealed publicly. Matsuyama remained on the Fridays until their incineration on Season 24, Day 12."

Summary: Lady traded, and remains one of the only Evolved players on the Fridays. She continues to maintain her relationship with Bottles Sujak (Mechanics), and they communicate via magic bottles. She long prized her Holey Ring (which was finally discarded this past season), which was suspected to be her engagement ring with Bottles, until she replaced it this past season with a new one. Lady is seen as a moderating voice on the Fridays, and one who always looks out for what is best for the team, as seen in her consistent sacrifice RBIs. She understands more of the Fans' big picture than most, and is a pillar of strength and support for the Fridays. This contributed to her willing acceptance of the recent Ego Share blessing a couple seasons ago. Lady has become friends with Fridays players Fenry Marlowe and a close confidant of Stevenson Heat, and serves as the Fridays strategist (when they want to have a strategy).

Proposal to format Lady's IRM as filebox

IRM Formatting Added

LexaByteNV (talkcontribs)

In lieu of the recent update to IRMs, I will be giving the one on this page the filebox format as it feels most appropriate

I'd like to add a "projects" section detailing various projects that Lady's worked on!

...is what I was going to say until Lady got feedbacked. sigh.

Lady Matsuyama, also known as "The Lady" is seven foot tall robot, constructed at a metamaterial research facility by her creator, Hideko Matsuyama, an esteemed roboticist. Her ai was patterned off of a primitive scan of her creator, who built her as an attempt to preserve their research after a containment breach at the research facility. Hideko's only chance to escape was an interdimensional gate generator, which would eviscerated all biological matter that passed through it. Thus, Matsuyama was sent in her stead, where she would find herself at the CORE.

Lady Matsuyama has a complicated relationship with her creator, possessing an incomplete sum of Hideko's memories, and largely considers herself a seperate person. She still posesses Hideko's talent for robotics, and indeed delights in tinkering with her own body, finding ways to push herself to her limits through clever engineering.

Beelijah (talkcontribs)

This is really cool! I think it'd be nice to have an additional section about Lady joining the team and her relationship with blaseball, but this is a really fun concept and what you've written is very good!

Xitharus (talkcontribs)

Oh right definitely a good idea. Thinking on some stuff:

Prior to Ascension, Matsuyama didn't quite get Blaseball. It seemed baffling and opaque to her, and certainly wasn't something she was created to pursue. But over time, she found a certain love for the game first through the love and camaraderie of her teammates, then through the surprising success she had at performing the very simple task: "hit ball". Nowadays, Matsuyama takes great pleasure in pushing the limits of her engineering towards the arbitrary ends of Blaseball; she enjoys finding purpose through effort towards something she was not created for.

Beelijah (talkcontribs)

Oh this is really good, I love the angle that she likes blaseball because she wasn't built for it

Hillexed2 (talkcontribs)

this is cool but "robot going beyond their programming" by itself feels a bit generic to me, and IMO it could use some details to spice it up. For example, maybe you could list some some modifications Lady made to herself or her wheelchair to push the limits like you describe? Or wild rube goldberg devices to hit the ball?

Xitharus (talkcontribs)

this irm wasn’t written w the scorpion tail / wheelchair user matsuyama in mind but it’s good feedback

Prior to Ascension, Matsuyama didn't quite get Blaseball. It seemed baffling and opaque to her; her creator being an atheist (Edward Elric style), she bristled at the idea of playing under the whims of fate the gods had in store. But over time, she found a certain love for the game first through the love and camaraderie of her teammates, then through the surprising success she had at performing the very simple task: "hit ball". Certainly, she began to appreciate the hilarity of the contradiction of her contention with the gods and the values she inherited from her creator. Nowadays, Matsuyama takes great pleasure in pushing the limits of her engineering towards the arbitrary ends of Blaseball; she enjoys feeling of finding meaning in defiance of fate. Recently, she modified her body to interface with Core’s power grid, allowing her incredible performance at home but leaving her running on battery power during away games.

Hillexed2 (talkcontribs)

Maybe I'd take out the "(Edward Elric style)" for people who don't know who that is.

Hillexed2 (talkcontribs)

I love the part about tinkering with her own body! One of my favorite parts of the lore jam idea of Lady is that she uses a wheelchair that she customizes and tinkers with.

Hillexed2 (talkcontribs)

I'd like to remove the IRM from this player's page. We had a lore jam and came up with the community summary listed in "Lore Jam Summary" at Topic:W5wlfc6aif9n0vmo, and having everyone's ideas in one page means they all get equal footing and can build off one another. I'd like to make sure those ideas, the result of the community, make their way onto the wiki. In addition, adding the IRM before other members could have a say makes me a little uncomfortable. If we decide individual ideas conflict too much, we can always re-add the IRM later - for example, maybe as a swappable backstory section to include the robot idea below.

Beelijah (talkcontribs)

I think it's unessecary to remove IRM from Lady's page. IRM Already means that each idea is on equal footing, and taking down what has already written inherently means dismissing that work as invalid. It's also against wiki policy to remove IRM unless it is demonstrably hurtful or trolling.

Hillexed2 (talkcontribs)

Objections were raised, so IRM isn't being deleted.

lady personality summary so far:

- loves her wife/gf bottles

- team aunt, generally calm, usually the first person the rest of the team goes to for venting or dealing with grief

- rivalry with zoey (see zoey's summary for more), plays the face, star pitcher vs star batter. zoey's text sound is the riff from Toxic in lady's phone

- sometimes may get genuinely frustrated that hotshot rookie zoey is the star pitcher despite not being with the team in the big leagues/through ascension

- but also likes zoey and the rivalry is mostly in fun

- plays mariokart with bottles, extremely competitive

- more responsible than bottles (but not by much), helps them remember to self care and eat and not get lost in work and bottles does the same back

- she and bottles try to sneak unsafe

-but

-fun races past team mom Mira, but they're generally caught

- likes mountaineering/spelunking/hiking

- explores weird sections of the Core, works with FRONT/CENTER

- uses a wheelchair (some/all of the time) (maybe it transforms? into tank treads/motorcycle/stair climbing/hiking/spelunking-specific configurations?) (alternatively, it's strongly based in IRL wheelchair designs + reinforced for blaseball and the focus is on making other places accessible, ie mechs go to away games and install ramps)

- likes to talk about the areas of the Core she's explored, leads tours sometimes

- contrasts Mira's theoretical ideas about the Core's topology with practical experience, making for very interesting conversations

- tall

- trans, has a tail with switchable ends (drill bits, book holder, etc), feminine style

In the course of uninstalling the IRM, it was noted that Lady Matsuyama/IF-1.123 was not previously discussed on the Talk page according to our collaboration policy. It will remain as a live page for ease of discussion, but if discussion arises within the next 24 hours it will be uninstalled and moved to a Pastebin to permit the re-installation of the IRM.

Inumo (talkcontribs)

The wiki mods were alerted to the installation of the IRM without prior discussion to this page. At time of discovery, it contained one rumor - Lady Matsuyama/IF-1.123 - with default settings for the full page. The installation was performed by Beelijah, who can reinstall the IRM after 24 hours if there are no objections.
