New IRM: Aspiring Herpetologist Magical Girl Chorby Short

1
KCToxic (talkcontribs)

New Chorby Short IRM proposal - Chorby is a magical girl and frog, but is more specifically a teenage aspiring herpetologist and a magical girl who can turn into a green paddy frog, Hylarana erythraea. It also covers a brief history of places Chorby has been, but with more focus on Chorby exploring those places looking for frogs than on what she would have been doing on the field.

It's a touch longer than I'd personally like put in a talk page post, so it can be viewed here in a google doc: Chorby IRM Draft

New IRM: Chorby's time on the Jazz Hands

KCToxic (talkcontribs)

Proposal: An IRM entry that is a basic summary of Chorby Short’s concept + what she is currently doing in Breckenridge, including most of what is in her talk page summary found here: Topic:Wkgwaepdlps6oekt. I am also proposing adding her instruments from her linked talk page summary, the banjo (in frog form) and otamatone (in humanoid form) to her infobox.

The IRM draft can be found here: Chorby IRM

A summary of it is below:

*Chorby is a frog who can transform into a magical girl

*Chorby has been assimilated into theatre kid culture in Breckenridge and finds its dramas similar to the drama of being a magical girl

*Chorby hangs out in the Pit Library and is friends with Zippy DeShields

*Chorby has learned “spells” from her teammates (roller skating and playing the otamatone, based on those being mentioned in the talk page summary of her Breckenridge activities)

*Chorby is a Homebody and feels connected to wherever she is living.

*Chorby keeps in contact with people from her previous homes, with Curry Aliciakeyes in particular being mentioned.

The draft doesn't cover her entire talk page proposal for her time on the jazz hands, but its current length is more in line with some of her other IRM.

Time on the Jazz Hands + IRM fix proposal

KCToxic (talkcontribs)

Housekeeping: Chorby Short's IRM template will be updated as a Filebox.

Lore update: The Jazz Hands fans on the Blaseball discord, as well as fans from several of Chorby's previous teams, came up with some of the following traits to guide an entry to Chorby's IRM concerning her time on the Jazz Hands. An IRM entry best follows the format of Chorby's page already set by previous IRM. The following summary was produced via a lorejam:

  • She/Her pronouns, primarily
  • Young, a teenager around 13-15 years old
  • A frog that can transform into a magical girl
  • Assimilated into being a theatre kid
  • Plays the banjo in frog form and the otamatone as a human
  • Easily befriends everyone
  • Sings
  • Chorby rap battle
  • Has Homebody - Chorby is strengthened by being connected to the natural world and the ecosyste, the people within it included.
  • Can and will levitate things and people.
  • Played the second and first kingdom hearts games in that order, didn't play the rest.
  • A Friend of crows, maybe her hat is full of birds.

New IRM: Chorby Short, the Sukebam Pseudacris maculata

Cuttlefishman (talkcontribs)

New Chorby Short IRM proposal - is froggie IRM, like others, but has a bit more specific of a tone than some of the other froggie Chorbys

"Chorby J. Short is a Boreal Chorus frog (Pseudacris maculata) sukeban (delinquent school girl) who takes guff from no one. One snide remark from anyone about her height and she whacks them with her bat. Despite this abrasive and aggressive personality, her soul melts when she interacts with wildlife, like the Bison that populate Yellowstone National Park. She would move to the park following an extended delay in her application as it was lost in the shadows (somehow having been accidentally mailed to Seattle?) to participate in a work-study programme with the Yellowstone Magic, where she is learning to be a population ecologist.

Chorby's current participation as a star batter on the Magic is the result of her learning that Blaseball, and more specifically always swinging at everything that comes her way, ball, peanut, person, or otherwise is a healthy way to blow off her emotions at the end of a day. She hopes that at the end of her work-study at the park, she has a chance to continue playing blaseball while interacting with wildlife."

Any feedback given would be great - this said, I think this one works as a pretty short / succinct IRM, so really mostly looking for anything which would really flesh out and develop this Chorby.

I think that looks good! The explanation for how she got to Seattle first is just the right sort of comedic paper messup that gets me smiling to imagine about.

Mac (talkcontribs)

Huge fan of this. You might look to include some of the ways Chorby had been affected by blessings or other in game events? Otherwise looks good though.

New IRM: American kestrel Chorby Short

8
CrookedSaint (talkcontribs)

Howdy! I'm here to propose an IRM of Chorby Short in which they are a regular American kestrel. I'm unfamiliar with the Magic's attitude towards and use of IRM, so let me know if any changed need to be made before posting!

Chorby Short is a small American kestrel born in Seattle and currently residing within the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park and surrounding woodland area. The American kestrel, also referred to as the sparrowhawk, is the smallest and most common falcon in North America, with Short being a particularly diminutive example.

Career

Once a resident of Discovery Park, Short was recruited by a very confused ILB intern who was looking for famed underleaguer Sparrow Hawk. Said intern was an ornithology major and mistakenly signed Short to the Seattle Garages. Due to Short’s inability to lift a bat or play music, they were placed in the team’s Shadows.

It was widely considered a positive change[by whom?] when Short was traded onto the Yellowstone Magic, one of the few teams prepared to address their unique needs as a player. They were outfitted with all charms and sigils needed to bat, if only as a single-star hitter. Even Terrell Bradley was quoted as saying, “Frankly, I’m more confused than upset. I hope that little bird is okay out there in the middle of nowhere.” Bradley has not been reachable for comment since.

Short’s time on Cream & Sugar United during the inaugural Coffee Cup was not particularly notable aside from the media’s continual fixation on their relationship to Quack Enjoyable. Continual efforts by press to spin their territorial disputes as a heated rivalry proved fruitless, though, once it was explained to Short by translator (and close personal friend of Short’s) Bonk Jokes that Enjoyable “posed little threat.”

Physiology

Chorby Short is, by all available accounts, a normal American kestrel. Optimized more for diving than sustained hovering, Short wears several amulets in order to create enough lift to bat. Critics of Short and the Magic’s playstyle have called into question whether this counts as illegal use of performance-enhancing boons. There has been no response from the ILB on the topic.

Advocacy

Short’s most significant media appearances have been as the face of an effort to conserve kestrel populations in the United States. They were the face of the “What Is Happening? How Did I Get Here?” campaign during the Grand Siesta, named for the first words Short spoke upon arriving in Yellowstone. The campaign was focused on understanding the cause of recent sharp declines in kestrel population over the last 50 years, something Short themself remains confused on. In interviews, Short has stated:

“Huh? What? I don’t know what you’re talking about. Is this a game? No? Okay. Is there a game tomorrow? Oh. I don’t know why there are fewer of us. I guess you could look it up. Oh, okay. Maybe you should find out. Hey, when do games start again?”

I love that Bonk has Chorby's back that Quack is not a threat! I think this would make a fine IRM addition to the character personally, though I'm not the one in charge of the birdverse series.

I can't really think of any nitpicks I have at the moment, but I'll shoot another reply if anything comes to mind!

Swirl (talkcontribs)

This looks cute, I like the choice of a particularly small bird to keep on par with the usual frog!Chorby's diminutive size. Would you say it's likely that kestrel!Chorby hatched from a particularly warm egg?

Zigzagian (talkcontribs)

This looks great! It's got my seal of approval!

CrookedSaint (talkcontribs)

Thanks everyone! Posted!

Phasmantistes (talkcontribs)

Thanks for posting this IRM, we love it! I intend to move it to a different IRM number; the designation "IF-13.1.12-D" is used by one particular member of the Magic community to indicate their "ornithomancy" posts. While this IRM and its interpretation of Chorby as a bird is wonderful, it isn't ornithomancy, so we'd appreciate if it could use a different ID, leaving this one open for a future ornithomancy post.

If there aren't any objections, I'll rename the entry in 24 hours. Thanks!

CrookedSaint (talkcontribs)

I don't object at all! I only used the one I did because I was told to keep it grouped with the other bird rumors. I have no attachment to the numbering and I'm happy to have that be a Magic team conversation!

Cuttlefishman (talkcontribs)

Just seeing this now and want to say I love it as a concientious break from froggie Chorby IRM
