Biography

Kobi Stein is an electronic musician and social media personality. Born into a Lucerne-based dairy herd, she was expected to take up a role in the family business but instead left the farm to follow a career in music. A minor scandal erupted when Stein was expelled from the Conservatoire for "conduct unbefitting a harp student", i.e. absent-mindedly eating a soprano's post-recital bouquet. Under this cloud she moved to Berlin and found a new niche in the warehouse EDM scene.

As a producer, Stein's restless creativity has seen her work in every style from herdcore to ambient cudstep and under a battery of pseudonyms including Beau Vine and simply "μ". She makes clear that her work "ist nicht deine kleingeistige doofdoofdiscomusik" and has pioneered the ruminative microgenre of Progressive Beefwave.

This same restlessness drew her to Japan and then to Blaseball, in part as a platform for self-promotion. Stein is active on social media as a clean-living "cowfluencer"; she promotes a "healthy mountain lifestyle", conspicuously drinking an exclusive brand of bottled glacial meltwater and eating grass sourced from curated pastures in the Bernese Alps. By a startling coincidence she is also sole Japanese importer for these products.

Stein has claimed - though never demonstrated - that she can identify to within three kilometres the Alpine hillside from which a serving of grass has been scythed. Her favourite is an east-facing meadow in the shadow of the Wetterhorn.

Stein has released a digital audio workstation called Cow Tools, available via the Tokyo Lift's online griftshop. A mooted collaboration with country singer Thomas Beef is yet to materialise.
