Taxonomy, Appearance & Diet

Homerunner is a blanket term for multiple variations of semi-mechanical beast native to the Core. The Homerunner is a small, roaming creature with a unique nesting protocol adopting the use of hard-light holographic projectors. Typical size ranges from one to three feet in length, and may be bi- or quadrupedal in gait. The Homerunner's preferred diet is the Zxes, and will autonomously establish a farm of them if enough are present. If no active infestation is nearby it can subsist on naturally-occurring mineral deposits and poses no threat to the Mechanics.

Nesting Protocol

Homerunners rarely stay in one place for more than a few months. When the Homerunner discovers a food source, mate, or other reason to remain in place, it deploys a number of holoprojectors (between four and eleven, dependent on age and nutrition level) and "runs" a temporary home environment in place. When it is time to leave, the nest shuts down and retracts into the Homerunner's systems, leaving no trace.

On the outside, a young Homerunner's nest most often resembles an oversized surface bird's nest or hollowed-out tree. In later years it may come to resemble a thatched cottage, although other forms have been observed, such as CRT televisions and even surface motor vehicles. Observation of the insides of these nests has been rare and poorly-documented, mostly due to the very private nature of the creature. What little evidence exists suggests an extremely efficient living space.

Splorts

In spite of its name, in all tests thus far the Homerunner has displayed no interest in Blaseball or other Splorts.
