Player History

Before Blaseball

A local to Baltimore, Grapefruit Walnut grew up hearing legends of the Olde One before her mysterious disappearance many years ago. Despite having never had a chance to meet the absent god, Walnut dedicated herself to the Olde One by becoming one of her paladins, donning a full body suit of armor, taking up an intense physical training regiment, and swearing vows she heard from old stories to prove her dedication. The most noticeable part of this regimen included Walnut’s insistence of remaining in full plate armour at all times, keeping herself safe from all forms of physical attack and making good use of bendy straws to get through the slats of her helmet.

Soon after taking up these vows Walnut discovered an old gnarled tree that stood alone outside of the city. It is unclear exactly what drove them to this spot - some would be quick to call it divine intervention, though it is equally likely that it was simply a coincidence. When Walnut discovered the tree they were able to sense a presence within it and worked to free the trapped soul. After hours of work Walnut was able to free Peyton Beech - an ancient warrior of the Olde One sealed away until her time of greatest need.

Walnut was eager to learn whatever they could from this new ally, but unfortunately Beech was uninterested and in fact outright hostile to the idea of passing on any of the Olde One’s teachings. Beech expressed disbelief that after the Olde One abandoned him in a tree for 100 years, that anyone would be foolish enough to follow the missing god. While Walnut did pull back on asking for teachings, she did stick close to Beech, hoping to glean some unintentional wisdom from their unwilling mentor.

The Baltimore Crabs

After the dead end of Peyton Beech, Walnut was eager to find a new way to show her devotion to her god, and was granted it with the return of Internet League Blaseball. Knowing the history of sport being used to show dedication to the gods, Walnut joined on to the team as soon as try-outs for the new season began.

Despite being one of the younger members of the team, Walnut was quickly designated as one of three captains to the Crabs. This delighted her as it gave Walnut the opportunity to complete an array of administrative tasks and paperwork that she found extremely enjoyable. This was far from her only role however, as her presence on the field was immense both in size (due to her full suit of armor) and in impact (due to her impressive BA). Under Walnut’s leadership the crabs were able to take the first championship of the Short Circuits.

In the election Walnut was blessed with the Fourth Strike, allowing them to lead the Crabs in both BA and SLG. While the team failed to snag a second championship, they finished strong and made an excellent show of their second season.

Charging the Microphone

When the question of charging the microphone came to the team, Grapefruit Walnut was quick to volunteer. Their excellent performance in the last season made them a clear fan favourite, and Walnut herself was more than willing to step into the unknown with the strength of her absent god behind her.

While most agreed to the proposal, it was Peyton Beech who took the issue with it. Having once put his faith in a god who left that faith wanting, Beech confronted Walnut’s resolve, warning them of making the same mistakes that he once had. Despite his best efforts, Walnut was unmoved, and remained set on her earlier decision. Privately Walnut had accepted long ago that the Olde One was gone and never coming back. But that hardly mattered to them. She had devoted herself to what the Olde One had once represented to the city of Baltimore, and that was what she had sworn her vows to.

In the Season 2 Election Grapefruit Walnut was Charged to the Microphone and removed from the Crabs Roster. She has not been seen since.
