History

Background

Fletcher Yamamoto (he/him) is a small bird native to the Sovereign Nation of Hawai'i. Yamamoto joined the team when he caught a fly ball while observing the game from center field.

Yamamoto's favorite base is third base and he will often attempt to steal it, even if the situation doesn't call for it. When asked why he loves that particular base so much, he repeatedly scrawled the word "shiny" in the infield dirt. It is unclear what he was referring to.

Season 8 Fridays Captain

After Elijah Valenzuela's trade to the Breckenridge Jazz Hands, Fletcher Yamamoto stepped up to become the Fridays team captain as one of the remaining players on the team since season 1, and also as the current lead off hitter. The decision was more or less unanimous among both teammates and fans, who all shouted "Bird captain!" in unison. After receiving the captain's hat, Yamamoto was quoted with, "[tweet] yeah, you mess with the nest, [tweet] die like the rest."

Joining the San Francisco Lovers

Early in Season β12, Yellowstone Magic pitcher Yeong-Ho Garcia arrived at the San Francisco Lovers via Feedback. Inspired by their new team's Charm ability, Garcia attempted the maneuver themself. Garcia, being a new addition to the team, had no ability whatsoever to perform a Charm; however, their eagerness to do so, combined with their well-established affinity for birds, resulted in them accidentally recruiting Yamamoto to the team. (The Lovers' adopted void NaN transferred to the Fridays in his place, as they were "ready to leave the nest.")

The Lovers expressed deep regret at their accidental recruitment of the Fridays' captain, promising to make him as comfortable as possible in San Francisco. Helga Burton and/or Moreno was quoted as saying, "I mean, we, like, just built an aviary. The little guy can totally stay in it if he wants." The Lovers also encouraged Yamamoto to retain his title of Captain; although no captaincies were available on the actual blaseball team, he was appointed Bird Captain of the Lovers' Court.

The circumstances of their friendship notwithstanding, Yamamoto and Garcia did, in fact, form a close bond as the two newest members of the Lovers. The two of them also reportedly struck up a friendship with pitcher and former land of Montgomery County Bontgomery "Bonty" Mullock, who is known to be popular with birds as he is literally a tree person. Yamamoto could often be seen nesting in Mullock's branches while Garcia leaned against his trunk.

Tragically, within a season of joining the Lovers, Yamamoto suffered an allergic reaction that severely hampered his ability to play blaseball. Yamamoto was quoted in the aftermath as saying, "[TWEET] PEANUTS! [Tweet], I’m so [tweetin’] tired. What’s a bird gotta do to get a nap around here?"

News of the incident travelled through the Lovers’ polycule to partial treant and total cinnamon bun Milo Brown, who at the time was on a break from active play in order to focus on his role as Head Cheerleader and spend more time with his boyfriend. Brown, having a longstanding history of being a caring friend to animals and particularly birds, reportedly made a squeaking noise and covered his mouth with his hands upon hearing the news. He reportedly then said, "Oh my gosh, a bird got hurt?! I gotta help I gotta help I gotta help!!!" before running out of the room. Brown reemerged with a sword-bat that had been specially made for him and which, according to reports, he had previously never picked up in his life, and, with a determined expression, said, "Let’s hecking do this."

Brown threw himself heart and soul into the cause of avian rehabilitation. In addition to volunteering to take Yamamoto’s place on the team to allow the bird captain some much-needed rest, he enlisted the help of the Lovers, with carpenter Yosh Carpenter at the helm, to build a fully equipped bird sanctuary in the shade of the PolyHedron. By the end of Season 12, it was ready for Yamamoto to move in. Upon seeing the finished sanctuary, Yamamoto reportedly said, "Hey, kid. This is really [tweetin’] nice. Thank you so much." He then reportedly sighed and continued, "I’m really gonna miss blaseball, though." Brown reportedly responded to this with record-breakingly huge puppy eyes before gasping, pointing at the branches growing out of his hair, and exclaiming, "You can sit on my head during games!!" In light of this development, Yamamoto has been appointed to the role of Head Head Cheerleader for Season β13. It is rumored, though not confirmed, that he will tweet especially loudly during Fridays games.
