Community History:The Mirrorverse

From Blaseball Wiki

Overview

There are a number of alternate realities that border the Immaterial Plane. This can be seen most easily by the LA Unlimited Tacos, who have an open connection to the infinite multiverse, and the numerous players who have the Alternate player mod and originally come from a different reality. While many of these connections to alternate realities are discrete, having only one or only a few overlaps with the main Immaterial Plane reality, there is one universe in particular that has many connections across the entire ILB, and is more commonly referenced than any other: The Mirrorverse.

The Mirrorverse is a reality much like the one that our ILB lives in. The main point of divergence is that, in the Season 1 election, The Mirrorverse passed the Relegation Decree rather than the Open the Forbidden Book decree.

This change had two main effects. First, since the Book was never opened, there are no Solar Eclipses, Umpires never incinerate players, the Hellmouth never formed, and there was no Discipline Era. Additionally, the specific rules of Blaseball were and remained mysterious, since no Book was opened to explain them. The second major effect was that the teams became significantly more cutthroat, since they knew that finishing last in a season would mean the end of their team. Where the fires of incineration brought the teams of the ILB together in a spirit of anticapitalism and unity, the threat of relegation split the Dark ILB and resulted in the teams organizing along darker, less forgiving lines.

One other detail that’s consistent across The Mirrorverse is that, at some point in the first few seasons, possibly even before Season 1, Goodwin Morin killed The Sun using a massive spear provided by The Corporation that owns Dark Seattle. The sun now hangs pinned in the sky, bathing the world in eternal light. There is no night in The Mirrorverse.

Many of the specifics and timing of events differ between individual Blaseball fan’s interpretations (like they do with most Blaseball lore), but these few details are consistent: Relegation instead of Forbidden Book, the Sun pinned to the sky, and teams becoming more cutthroat and/or capitalist.

Mirrorverse content tends to deal more directly with heavy themes than Blaseball does. While The Mirrorverse doesn’t have player death, it has a number of fates worse than death that have occurred in various pieces of lore. Mirrorverse players tend to be dark reflections of their Immaterial counterparts, harsh instead of soft, conniving instead of loving, and generally less pleasant people to be around. When engaging with Mirrorverse content, you should keep in mind your own level of comfort with darker themes, and to disengage if the various bad ends described have a negative effect on your mental health.

There are several teams that have established Mirrorverse counterparts. While any team can make Mirrorverse team lore, only some have done so at this point. While Relegation has been passed in The Mirrorverse, it’s entirely up to a particular team if their team has been Relegated. As such, all Relegation is assumed to have happened to some other, unnamed team.

Mirrorverse Teams

The Seattle Garages/The Dark Seattle Corporates Dark Seattle is a city owned by The Corporation, a vast corporate entity headquartered in DEBT Tower, built on the ruins of The Big Garage. They have Synergy Blood, a blessing that gives them a hivemind and makes it so any Feedback swaps only go one-way, and make the team one player larger each time.

More can be read about the Corps here.

The Atlantis Georgias/The Avalon Carolinas The Carolinas live in the Fae court of Avalon, a dangerous place of strange laws where many mortals have been trapped by faerie tricks. They have a team mod that forces players to stare at and think about them.

The Boston Flowers/The Boston Thorns Mirror Boston has sank into the swamp, and the Thorns work to fight against the other Mirrorverse teams’ capitalist corruption. The one team that is as anticapitalist in the Mirrorverse as they are on the Immaterial Plane.

The Hades Tigers/The Pluto Pride Persephone divorced Hades, and he lost the Tigers in the arrangement. The Pride are based on Pluto, the dwarf planet at the edge of the solar system, where they run a vast criminal enterprise with the low-end fast food chain Schmurgleburger as a front.

The Hellmouth Sunbeams/The Heavensmaw Moonrays The Moonrays live in a shining city where the pursuit of perfection is valued above all things. Anyone deemed to not be striving to reach Heaven enough is exiled. Competition between teammates is constant.

The Houston Spies/The Houston Influencers The Influencers of Dark Houston possess a massive network of social media accounts, followers, friends, favorites, and sponsorship deals. Influencers are expected to keep up a successful following, and players who have too few followers are removed from the team and replaced.

The Miami Dale/The Miami Armada The Armada is a pirate fleet that sails up and down the coast, combining a love of piracy and partying in a neverending chaos cruise. The sky in Mirror Miami looks like a vaporwave sunset, rather than the steady noonday sun that the rest of the Mirrorverse gets.

The New York Millennials/The $NYC Millionaires A city covered in thick green Smog and streets flooded with Immateria and Consumers is the home of The Exchange, where anything can be bought for the right price. The Millionaires are the board of directors, who have sold their identities for controlling interest in the company. An unethical stockbroker’s dream.

More about the Millionaires can be found here.

The Philly Pies/ The Delphy Cakes Everything is always wonderful in Delphy! Everyone is always smiling, and the team always wins! The city is one of the few places that has a nighttime, as the city cycles through the same perfect day, every single day! They cheer for every team, and hope that everyone has fun playing Blaseball!
