Bolt beings are tiny beings made of small mechanical parts (bolts, nuts, and springs being the most common) shaped like other living creatures. Common subspecies are bolt dogs, bolt birds, bolt humans, bolt wyverns, bolt octopi, etc.

Creating a Bolt Being

Bolt beings are typically created by artists or sculptors in the Core. By assembling scrap pieces and small parts into the shape of a creature, the creator is able to infuse the bolt being with a small amount of mechanical life. The personality of the bolt being is dictated by the prevailing emotions of their creator at the time.

Possession

Bolt beings, as constructs, serve as exceptional vessels for the non-corporeal people or spirits living in the Core. If one such person or spirit needs to affect the material world, they can briefly possess a bolt being to do so. It is currently unclear how much control bolt beings have over being possessed, but preliminary FRONT research indicates that they are capable of forcing out a possessing spirit with significant effort.

Behavior

Bolt beings do not need food or sustenance to survive. However, since their personality is formed by their creator, most bolt beings are creative and driven to make and repair things. It is not unusual to find a bolt being collecting parts or trying to repair broken machines. Bolt beings are not very intelligent, however, so such repair attempts nearly always end with the machine more broken than before. Fortunately, bolt beings are unable to create other bolt beings, preventing a possible infinity paradox.
