Box of Wanda Schenn Files

Dust billows as the file box lands on the table. While many archives in the Interdimensional Rumor Mill are unified in some way, this... definitely isn’t one of them. The accompanying Rumor Registry explains all of the contents... wherever it is... but for now you grab the folder labelled IF-96.436 and start reading...

Appearance

Wanda Schenn is always seen wearing a big coat, and the only features visible outside the coat are their large, bright eyes; fluffy hair that has little regard for gravity; hands; and feet. The limbs visible outside the coat change freely from pawlike in appearance to large numbers of large worms. Schenn is a “wormwolf”. Reports of what exactly that means varies, but she is humanoid in shape and has a mix of vaguely human-like and vaguely wolf-like features, and also is host to a colony of worms. The worms appear to be more like a pet than a part of their consciousness, although there are allegedly versions of Schenn where that is not the case. Schenn is semiverbal autistic, and their coat is a sensory comfort for her.

Schenn is an excitable gremlin. Fascinated by the world, she has been known to act childish at times. They are hesitant to warm up to new people. Her big coat is one manifestation of her nesting habits.

Schenn uses she/her and they/them pronouns. Like all of us, she is from Chicago. Her jersey number is 740.

History

In Ohio

Schenn originated from REDACTED Ohio REDACTED[citation needed] Rumors of (cw: implied animal death) “roadkill worm necromancy” are currently unfounded, as are rumors of "worm lycanthropy", "worm likeanthropy[sic]", "they're just like that", and "demons". The reason she joined the Ohio Worms, and her initial experience there, are also presently uncertain.[citation needed] They may or may not have been friends with Augusta Chadwell, and possibly also Enid Marlow and Kit Ratoon.[citation needed]

In Chicago

At the end of Season 13, NaN encountered Schenn, who was burning up with some unnatural, strangely fire-like fever. The Worms expressed concern about her, and NaN, for whom this was on their route, offered to take her to Chicago and see if anyone there could help. Rivers Rosa was the first to encounter them, and offered her assistance immediately. As a result, Schenn was added to the Firefighters roster. She appreciates it, but still misses their home team.

Gita Sparrow went out of her way to make Schenn feel welcome, and the two became fast friends, with their different styles of awkwardness (Sparrow is talkative, Schenn is quiet) meshing well. There are rumors that the two have started a relationship. They stay in touch and send each other memes regularly. Both are now Subtractors.

Schenn is also friends with Kennedy Rodgers and was close friends with Goobie Ballson (as most Firefighters were). Despite Rosa's role in Schenn's arrival to Chicago, in the short time when both were on the team before Rosa swapped with NaN (the same player Schenn was traded for), they did not talk much.

Schenn has been known at times to speak German, seemingly to herself. Isaac Johnson learned some basic German in an attempt to make them feel welcome; reportedly, when Schenn heard about this, she stopped speaking German around the Firefighters entirely.

Schenn became an Undertaker in Season β19, and received tips on it from teammate Justice Spoon, the first Undertaker. Spoon’s shadowing in Season β22 put the team’s Undertaker responsibilities solely on Schenn for the first time.

In Los Angeli

Schenn transferred to the Tacos for several reasons. Here is one that you might have heard of: Los Angeli, being infinite, is one place best suited to any treatments their weird biology might need, and they needed to recover from something. Most importantly, though, they accidentally joined the team when on a connecting flight to Tokyo to get back her Underhanded Arm Socks of Intelligence. While this initially seemed like an unsuccessful endeavour, Schenn got lucky in that Silvaire Semiquaver, the current holder of those socks, joined the team a season later, and Schenn now has her socks back.

Schenn found Los Angeli initially exceedingly overwhelming and sensory-overload-inducing, despite their curiosity. She also disliked the heat, as it made her jacket uncomfortable at times. They first became comfortable around Basilio Mason, who was frantically figuring out how to fulfill a “team dad/team responsible adult” role and made her feel welcome, and can often be seen following him around. Mason carefully modified her jacket for better temperature control; Schenn has also been seen in Mcdowell Mason’s old uniform, as it is large enough on them. Yummy Elliott (who introduced Schenn to Baja Blast) and McKinley Otten both also helped Schenn get acclimated. Schenn and Elliott are gremlin buddies.

Despite not having been close with Rosa in Chicago, Schenn and Rosa became friends in LA. Schenn also bonded with Felix Garbage due to shared interests and with Basilio Fig, despite initial concern at Fig’s perpetual flame. Both consider her like a younger sibling. She has been seen getting horseback rides from Sexton Wheerer, who befriended them all the more enthusiastically despite having to detangle missing Mcdowell Mason from it; in Chicago, Mason and Gita Sparrow have a similar dynamic. She is comfortable with Peanut Bong, who reminds them somewhat of former teammate Peanutiel Duffy. (Refresh to see more team dynamics.) Meanwhile, Pannonica Oko is grossed out by and dislikes Schenn, for reasons that may include Schenn being a Subtractor while Oko remains shadowed, and Schenn dislikes Oko in return due to Oko replacing Goobie Ballson in a relatively hostile manner.

Subtractor and Elsewhere

Schenn became a Subtractor immediately after joining the Tacos, at the same time as Sparrow did. There was some comfort in not going through being a Subtractor alone, and some additional comfort in how well it fit their chaotic nature, but she did not like being a detriment to the team’s score. Tragically, their Underhanded Arm Socks of Intelligence did not fix this, as one effect applied to batting and the other to pitching.

During her time on the Tacos, Schenn only dove in Elsewhere to use her Undertaker abilities once, pursuing Felix Garbage in the last week of Season β24. Elsewhere, in this case, seems to be more metaphorical than literal, with Schenn becoming spacy and distant and only half-aware of their surroundings, to a much greater extent than just the effects of being fully Scattered. McKinley Otten describes this as a form of “metaphysical injury”, and despite her best efforts, has been unable to do anything about it thus far. (Refresh to see another take on Schenn's time Elsewhere.)

Trivia

  • Schenn has the same first name that was formerly the first name of former Tacos pitcher (and batter) Wyatt Pothos. The two actually pitched a game against each other on Season β13 Day 92, which Schenn lost.
  • Schenn is an active member of the “New Kids” Dliscord established by Sparrow and Roscoe Sundae for the players joining the league between Season 12 and Season 14.
  • On nights of the full moon, Schenn reportedly goes “sillymode”.
