Russo Slugger is a player for the Canada Moist Talkers, and has been with the team since Fall Ball. Slugger has previously played for the Breckenridge Jazz Hands.

Official League Records

Slugger joined the ILB as a player in the Shadows for the Breckenridge Jazz Hands with the Return of Blaseball.

On Season β24, Day 53, Slugger joined the Jazz Hands' pitching rotation in exchange for Zippy DeShields at Breckenridge Community Field via the Ratified Fax Machine.

During the November 4, 2022 Fall Ball, Slugger fell to the Canada Moist Talkers.

During the Season 2 elections, as a result of the Talkers' Wind Spirits Blessing, Slugger's Defense and Running both increased by one star.

History

Russo Slugger is a professional wrestler and a heel. They have a PhD in Wrestling. Slugger is skilled in the ring, but does not have the personality or intimidation of a heel outside the ring. They generally find being mean to be difficult. Slugger is accompanied by a living action figure of themselves named Russo Jr. Their ring name is "Dr Slugger and their Devil's Advocate." Slugger attended Breckenridge University, where they studied and performed many different styles of wrestling while writing their doctoral thesis, Gender In Battle: Wrestling And The Division Of Masculinity/Femininity/Other Across Cultures.

Slugger is Mexican-American and has a short, stocky build and red hair. They wear a blue and gold version of their wrestling uniform rather than a standard Jazz Hands uniform when they are playing. Slugger claims that playing in a familiar uniform makes them pitch better.

Russo Jr.

Russo Jr., also known as just Junior, is a living action figure modeled after Slugger. It accompanies Slugger in the ring, but is mostly ineffective in doing more than insulting opponents and riling up the crowd. Slugger plays up their strength as part of their heel persona, and relies on Junior to be loud and rude in their stead. Junior also accompanies Slugger on the mound, though its yelling tends to irritate Slugger more than it does opponent batters. Junior looks like Slugger, but has a set of red horns on its head as part of its wrestling gimmick with Slugger. According to Slugger, “It just came to life one day. It’s a lot better than me at being mean, so I try not to ask questions.”

Breckenridge Jazz Hands

Before coming to the Jazz Hands, Slugger was friends with Wyatt Pothos, whom they frequently went to the gym with. Pothos was able to get Slugger a free gym membership at The Pocket, but on the condition that Slugger had to join the Jazz Hands' Shadows. Pothos assured Slugger that they would never be called up to play. In Season β24, Slugger was called up to play via The Pocket's Fax Machine, which was then nullified by the Black Hole (Black Hole). Slugger tries their hardest as a pitcher, despite their inexperience in that position. Slugger had a particularly rough introduction to pitching due to the then-approaching Black Hole(Black Hole), the Jazz Hands becoming Rogue, and the Nullification of Blaseball in their first season on the mound. According to their teammates, Slugger is reported to have responded with “Just trying to get through this week” for several weeks in a row whenever they were asked if they were alright during their debut season.

Between the various events of Season 24, the Jazz Hands were able to have a jam session with Slugger. Slugger came out of their first team jam session having chosen a tuba from Bolter's collection.

Outside of Blaseball games, Slugger still wrestles professionally. They also participate in roller dlerby with fellow Jazz Hands players Wyatt Pothos, Lancelot Kane, Siobhan Chark, and Zippy DeShields and Chorby Short (who participate as a single player). During the offseason, Slugger works behind the scenes of productions put on in The Pocket as part of the stage crew. Occasionally, they have been known to play supporting characters, but never main characters, in these productions.
