Modifications first manifested at the end of Season 4 due to the two chosen decrees: Alternate Reality and Targeted Shame. Alternate Reality applied the Alternate modification to a random hitter and pitcher on each team. Targeted Shame was applied to the top four teams in Season 4: the Chicago Firefighters, New York Millennials, Hades Tigers, and Breckenridge Jazz Hands.

The Fireproof and Soundproof modifications appeared at the end of Season 5. These were granted on a team-wide basis to the Canada Moist Talkers and Hawai'i Fridays respectively. After being granted both a Fireproof Jacket and Noise-Cancelling Headphones, Mclaughlin Scorpler exhibited these modifications. However, due to ILB regulations, Scorpler could only keep one armor piece, choosing to stick with just the Noise-Cancelling Headphones.

The High Filter Decree in the Season 5 Election also ushered in a League shuffle, and each member of the new leagues received a special Blood Bath-related modification. In the Wild League, teams in the High division received Blood Pity, while teams in the Low division were granted Blood Winner. In the Mild League, teams in the High division became Blood Donors, while the teams in the Low division became Blood Thieves. Despite some teams changing leagues and subleagues due to blessings in the Season 8 and Season 10 elections, they retained the modification of their original subleague. When the Tokyo Lift were added to the Wild High following the Ascension of the Baltimore Crabs, the new team did not receive a Blood Bath-related modification. Modifications are buffs, debuffs, and statuses added to players, teams, ballparks, and the league as a whole. They give various effects and last for varying amounts of time. Active modifications are visible on a player's bio, a team's roster window, a team's ballpark's window, and the league's info page.

Overview

A modification grants various effects to its holder. Some are beneficial, some are detrimental, and some simply work as indicators. Some modifications also have mysterious effects which are not immediately obvious, such as the case with Observed. A player's modification will be carried with them even if they switched team, while team modifications will take effect for every player currently in that team regardless of when they joined.

Modifications can be obtained from a variety of sources. Recorded sources of modifications include Decrees, Blessings, Wills, Weathers, Items, as well as various events that happen during a Blaseball game. Some modifications can also spawn related modifications, such as how a player with Fire Eater will have the modification Magmatic after they have eaten fire.

Each modification has a set Duration. These Durations dictate when the modification will be removed, but is not necessarily an indicator of how long they will last. For example, despite having its Duration set as Permanent, Magmatic will usually quickly wear off within a single game. Some Permanent modifications may also disappear for reasons yet unknown, such as the case for Elsewhere and Scattered.

Player and team-based modifications can be reliably gained or changed through Wills. Reform can replace a modification with Permanent duration, Enrich can grant a team various seasonal modifications, and Trust or Alternate Trust can give a single player a specific beneficial modification. Ballpark modifications can be gained through Renovations every Latesiesta.

History

Modifications were first introduced at end of Season 4 through decrees, with the first modifications being Alternate and Targeted Shame. Since then, various modifications have been granted through various means.

Day 45 of Season 5 introduced the first weather-induced modification, with Reverberated granted to Don Mitchell during Reverb weather after "reverberations reached dangerous levels".

The first item-induced modification was introduced at end of Season 5 through blessings granting the items Fireproof Jacket and Noise-Cancelling Headphones, containing the modifications Fireproof and Soundproof, respectively.

Duration

Known durations are as follow:

 • Permanent modifications are never removed automatically.
 • Armor and Item modifications are removed if the player loses their Armor or Item, respectively.
 • Weekly modifications are removed after every 9th game of the season.
 • Game modifications are removed after each game.
