History

Origins

Knight "Knight" Triumphant, magical sentient suit of armor and longtime resident of Sigmund Castillo, is the Lovers' Team Captain and Founder. They're the only member of the original roster to have any previous Blaseball experience, and their enthusiasm was so contagious that it inspired some of their expansive sprawling polycule (colloquially known as the Knights of the Polyamorous Table) to join the team and learn to play. Triumphant is also the proud parent of Baby Triumphant. Given the Blaseball prowess of their offspring, it is said that Knight Triumphant may possess some sort of inheritable Blaseball DNA.

Journey into the Hellmouth

When the Hellmouth first opened, Triumphant was one of the few known to enter its uninhabitable lands. Rumors say it was completely by accident and only occurred because they wandered off in an exhausted state during a vacation in the Moab Desert after 10 straight days of partying with their lovers and teammates. Not much is known about Triumphant's time in the Hellmouth or what effects it may have had on them mentally or biologically. Upon finally finding the exit to the Hellmouth, Triumphant was spat out in a time period much earlier from whence they came, their memories addled. Still to this day Triumphant will not confirm the truth or disclose the identity of the mysterious entity that gave them the title of Knight or why. This entity also bestowed knowledge of a mythical object known as the Holy Glrail, which is said to help those who drink from it to find true love and eternal happiness.

The God-Slayer

Before blaseball was even an idea, Triumphant was the squire of another knight, whose name has been lost to the sands of time. One fateful day, in a venture towards what is now Hellmouth, the two killed a rampaging god. To protect the world, they cut up the god’s body, and they scattered it to the four corners of the realm. The reader may wonder what happens if the god ever combines again? We find it best not think about it.

Triumphant's part in this however was not finished. Through circumstances of which Triumphant shall not speak, the Heart of the God would later come into their possession. They continually reminded the grounds crew at the PolyHedron that the Heart must be maintained… just, please, never fed. Over time, the ancient blood pumping through the Heart transformed it into MeatCute the Abstract Force of Romantic Fate. MeatCute can currently be found in its Playpen, with strict instructions never to feed the Hungry Heart. MeatCute is incredibly wholesome, despite its origins, and simply wishes to love everyone, no matter how much they try to keep it out of arm reach.

Gone from their original hidden locations, many organs and limbs remain missing. Triumphant, however, is aware that some blaseball teams are currently the custodians of these parts, such as the Unlimited Tacos with Lalengua, although they are unaware of what circumstances led to this.

The Resistance / Blaseball

During Triumphant's quest for knowledge of the Holy Glrail's whereabouts, they saw many injustices occurring right in their own backyard, San Francisco. Triumphant met with the disenfranchised heir to Queen King I's throne, Theo King, in an effort to aid in correcting these injustices. The two soon became each other's closest confidants. Upon learning of how disillusioned Theo and others were with this forced "renaissance" life style, a deep desire to unite the people of San Francisco under a banner of love and acceptance of the modern times once and for all was formed. The two eloped in XX89 to establish a resistance movement that would soon become the foundation of the Romantic Collaborative of San Francisco.

Triumphant thought they put the medieval times behind them, but one quiet morning in Sigmund Castillo, a vortex opened up within the kitchen and out came Percival Wheeler. She told Triumphant of the land of myth and legend she hailed from, an evil sorceress, a legendary bat stuck within a stone, and the Holy Glrail. Most importantly, Wheeler informed Triumphant of a round table where all lovers were treated with mutual and equal affection. Some say this concept was the cornerstone of the foundation of Triumphant's polycule which would then go on to become the San Francisco Lovers Blaseball team.

When Knight Triumphant isn't playing blaseball, they are journeying far and wide hoping to discover the final resting place of the mythical Holy Glrail. Triumphant and the Lovers are convinced that the Holy Glrail has the power to bring former teammates, Parker Prime, Kichiro Prime, and her Tough Love Dimension girlfriend Alternate Allison back to our plane of reality.

The Holy Glrail

Triumphant’s connections to the Holy Glrail are long and storied. It is rumored that when they were but a squire, they had tasted but a mere drop of its contents, bestowing upon them the essence of True Love. This encounter with the Glrail allowed Triumphant the heart to share their affections with as many who would return them, thus establishing the Knights of the Polyamorous Table.

During the events of Season β9, Triumphant found a definitive lead on the Holy Glrail. It was said that the ancient relic would only appear to those in their greatest time of need, when the world could be unified under a single righteous cause. Thus the team captain went on a quest throughout the lands alongside long-time partner, the champion of True Love, Kichiro Guerra. While it was not an easy journey, the two eventually reached their destination and achieved their goal. Triumphant’s life-long quest had come to an end. They could finally bring True Love back to this world and defeat the Shelled One.

Upon their return, Triumphant encouraged the rest of the San Francisco Lovers to imbibe the ever-flowing contents of the chalice. Upon doing so the entire team felt a deep change within them, in their very blood. Each team member said it tasted like their fondest memory and upon drinking it they felt the love for their one true passion in their life to be amplified.

It has since become tradition for new players on the Lovers to partake in its contents upon joining. Many theorize that this is what allows the team to be so Charming on the blaseball field.

Knight and Squire

At the end of Season β9, shortly before Triumphant’s return, a new player known as NaN had joined the team. Learning of the child’s journey across the league and Triumphant, having just completed their life’s work, poured all their time and energy into training the young child for their quest. Triumphant worked to teach them about blaseball, while ulterior intention was to help NaN learn about their own strengths and weaknesses. The two would form quite the duo, known on the field by many fans as “Knight and Squire”, having performed quite the number of amazing combination plays on the field.

During Season β12, before a game with the Hawai’i Fridays, the Squire pulled forth the legendary Excalibat from a stone within the Polyhedron. Triumphant, knowing their time with NaN would soon be coming to a close imparted one last piece of knowledge to their squire, the prophecy of Excalibat. The prophecy warned that when the swordbat was pulled from the stone it would be a sign of great darkness on the horizon but it also foretold of the wielder, the “Chosen One”, who would become a beacon of love and hope for others in the coming darkness.

When asked how they felt about losing their squire, Triumphant only had this to say “Their quest is complete, they are a squire no more, today they begin their adventure as a hero whether they know it or not.”

Time on the Spies

Under the code name Sir Veillance, Knight Triumphant spent much of season 13 learning the Houston Spies' tricks and traps: oiling their joints and stuffing rags between plates so as to move more quietly, rappelling down from high places, and writing in code.

The Spies believe that being "in the right place at the right time" is not just a coincidence: that it can be arranged for with careful observation of people's movements and habits - and when people suddenly deviate from them. These days, Triumphant often just so happens to be relaxing on a specific balcony, or "accidentally" locks themself out of their own room, so someone can't just retreat to brood moodily in isolation.

Rumors swirl about Triumphant using other means of sabotage to, for example, encourage two feuding roommates to make up with each other by causing a leak in their ceiling that they then have to fix. None of these rumors have ever been confirmed.

A Diplomatic Mission

Knight Triumphant came back to the San Francisco Lovers alongside Spies team captain Fitzgerald Blackburn, the latter due to some carefully misfiled paperwork by the Spies. During their time away from the team, they realized that fans of the Lovers had also become fans of the Spies, and vice versa upon their return alongside the Spies captain. Triumphant knew that may have found a way to unify the fans of the League once more during this tumultuous era of Wills. The Lovers, upon hearing Triumphant’s plan, could only trust their captain once more.

The first step of the plan was quite unconventional. While playing a game occurring during Flooding weather, the Lovers’ team captain intentionally found themself swept Elsewhere by the Immateria. Fitzgerald Blackburn would help hold the Lovers together in Triumphant’s absence for the remainder of the season.

The Lovers captain would continue to remain MIA for quite some time, worrying many of their former teammates with the idea that something had gone wrong. Many splortscasters theorized that perhaps the density of Knight Triumphant’s suit had sunk them into the depths of the Immateria. Eventually, the long-time batter and blaseball enthusiast would find themselves returned from Elsewhere. Triumphant found themself in a new role and a new location, as a pitcher for the newly arrived breech team the Atlantis Georgias.

Diving to Atlantis

After returning from the shadowy depths of elsewhere, Knight Triumphant started to pitch for the Atlantis Georgias. On occasion, a crustacean resembling the fugitive Lobster Knight, known for their role in the Red Lobster Uprising, could be seen pitching during Knight's scheduled games. It is unknown if this is a result of the flux nature of reality in Atlantis, or if Triumphant simply got a friend to play for them on those days. Though they intended to return to their hometown as soon as possible, Triumphant bonded a great deal with the team, growing particularly close with Hercules Alighieri, who was fascinated by Triumphant's historical knowledge. Triumphant was heartbroken by their untimely incineration, and helped the team get through their first death of the expansion era.

Sister Cities

Lovers fans found themselves rooting for Knight Triumphant during their time on the pitching mound, as unusual as it was. During this season and the next, Georgias and Lovers fans found themselves working towards the common goal of returning the team captain back to San Francisco. This effort, combined with Triumphant’s empathy for the Georgias after the loss of Alighieri, helped cement unbreakable bonds between the two teams. Henceforth Atlantis would be known as a “Sister City” to the Romantic Collaborative of San Francisco.

The Return of the Captain

Through a mutual exchange of players, Knight Triumphant would find themself once more in San Francisco and it could not have happened soon enough. During the captain’s absence, many would attempt to fill the role. Including co-captain Parker Meng, both King Roland and Theo King during something colloquially known as “The Contest of Kings”, and finally captain in absentia Percival Wheeler. Upon Triumphant’s return Wheeler reportedly said, "Oh thank the gods I'm so tired..."

Unfortunately for both the Lovers fans and Percival Wheeler, Triumphant’s diplomacy mission had not yet come to an end. During Season β18 the armored knight exchanged places with yet another team captain, Conner Haley of the Dallas Steaks. Haley did his best to fill the armored captain shoes that Triumphant left behind until longtime displaced Hellmouth Sunbeams player and blaseball lover, Alexander Horne, would fill them.

Steaking a Claim in Dallas

Triumphant made the decision not to take over for Haley as captain but instead to help train a new captain for the Steaks. That captain ended up being Sam Scandal, who learned plenty under Triumphant’s tutelage. Scandal stepped up to take charge of the team, and Knight decided to continue their mission.

Travels in Tokyo

Before long, they felt a calling to the Tokyo Lift and decided to travel to the team. They got in touch with former Steaks teammate Engine Eberhardt, who agreed to return to Dallas in order to allow Triumphant to spend time in Tokyo.

Only a matter of days after Triumphant joined the team, tragedy struck when Gerund Pantheocide was incinerated. Lift co-captain Yusef Fenestrate declared that the team would be abolishing the captaincy position, and so Triumphant aided Fenestrate in transitioning out of a captain-based structure and into a more collaborative setup.

Triumphant gradually made themself at home in Tokyo, not just as a teammate but as a denizen of the city. They also spent time with former Georgias teammate Ankle Halifax; Triumphant was protective of Halifax, as they reminded them of the late Son Scotch.

Taking it Back to Texas

After two seasons with the Lift, Triumphant was approached by former Steaks teammate Baldwin Breadwinner, who was Super-Roamin’ at the time. There are no direct reports of what transpired between the two of them, but shortly after their conversation, Triumphant became determined to return to the Steaks. Breadwinner roamed away from the Lift, and at the same time, Triumphant returned to Dallas.

Trivia

  • Triumphant is a frequent user of magical glamours that allow them to blend in with the mundane world. Any sightings of Triumphant as a being of flesh can be attributed to such magics.
  • The nature of Baby Triumphant's birth is a mysterious process known as "knightosis". It is unknown whether or not Baby's Blaseball prowess is natural or the product of a genetic alteration. It’s rumored that "knightosis" is a side-effect of Triumphant’s extended time within the Hellmouth.
  • It is unknown if the Hellmouth sent Triumphant back in time to their own dimension or not, just as it is unknown if the Triumphant that is here is the same one that entered the Hellmouth. It’s all very confusing to everyone involved, to be quite frank.
