History and Appearance

Fenry Marlow is a native Hawaiian; there is little evidence that they have ever left the islands. Hardly anything is known about their early life, aside from speculation and Marlow's own unverified claims. They are genderfluid (often telling people to use "whatever pronouns you're vibin' with"), heavy set, a wheelchair user, and appear to be approximately 56 years old, but this age has yet to be confirmed.

Marlow is sometimes depicted with driftwood as a part of their body, including part of their head, over their forearms, and on the back of their calves. How Marlow ended up this way is unknown, but some speculate Our Lady of Perpetual Friday is involved, as Marlow seems to have a close bond with her.

First Friday

Marlow claims to be the first person ever blessed/cursed by Our Lady of Perpetual Friday to live forever on island time, and thus became the first player to ever play Blaseball for the Fridays. When asked about Marlow, former founding players for the Fridays have given mixed responses, ranging from puzzled expressions of confusion to smirking nods suggesting fond memories.

Time Traveler?

Marlow is known to tell detailed historical stories at Fridays cookouts, typically from personal experiences. However, his anecdotes often contain questionable and/or contradictory details, and the stories themselves are sometimes from hundreds of years ago. This, coupled with Marlow's pregame ritual of entering a contraption he calls a "hyperbolic time chamber," has led to speculation among the Fridays that Marlow could be a time traveler. Some on the team believe it more likely that Marlow is a gifted raconteur in the Polynesian tradition. Marlow is ever coy when asked directly about the truth. Opinions differ widely, with Juice Collins strongly preferring the storyteller explanation, with Jacob Winner being a true believer in the time travel theory. Both are always rapt with Marlow's recollections.

Additionally, connections have been drawn between Marlow's relationship with driftwood and his alleged time traveling, with some suggesting Marlow has drifted through time much like driftwood through the ocean.

Homer

Homer is Marlow's Hawaiian poi dog companion. It is thought that Homer was given to Marlow as a gift by Our Lady of Perpetual Friday in the 19th century before the species went extinct, further adding to the speculation that Marlow is a time traveler. Marlow often refers to Homer as “Old Man” despite the fact that neither of their exact ages is known. Homer’s name comes from his love of chasing down home runs hit by opposing players, which Marlow pitches somewhat often because they enjoy playing fetch with Homer.
