The BlaseballCares Showdown was a non-canonical exhibition series held by The Game Band during the Grand Siesta on December 13th, 2020. The Showdown was a two-hour guest segment on the fan-run Blaseball Cares Blaseballidays Holiday Charity Stream, held to raise money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness.[1]

The Showdown was a best-of-3 series between two teams of drafted players; the Danger Zone (managed by Stephen Bell and Elena Murphy) and the Tsushima Ghosts (managed by Roldan Melcon and Sam Rosenthal), with Joel Clark acting as host. Due to time limitations, the series was cancelled at a 1-1 tie after two games.

Teams

Danger Zone

See the main article on this topic: Danger Zone

The Danger Zone were the team representing Stephen Bell and Elena Murphy. The team was themed around incineration, with the majority of their drafted players having incineration-related modifications such as Fire Eater, Unstable, or Haunted.

During Game 2 of the showdown, Unstable Danger Zone batters Moody Cookbook and Sebastian Telephone were incinerated and replaced with, respectively, the non-canonical player Alx Pineapple and the deceased player Langley Wheeler (due to Squiddish).

Tsushima Ghosts

See the main article on this topic: Tsushima Ghosts

The Tsushima Ghosts were the team representing Roldan Melcon and Sam Rosenthal. Unlike the Danger Zone, the Ghosts did not have any particular theme to their draft selections, and many of the Ghosts' draft picks were chosen by the stream audience.

The team's name and slogan were a reference to a then-recent Game of the Year Twitter poll tournament held by the video game podcast The Besties in which Blaseball beat the popular 2020 video game Ghost of Tsushima.[2] Despite this, neither Melcon nor Rosenthal had played Ghost of Tsushima at the time of the Showdown.

During Game 2 of the showdown, Unstable Ghosts batter Pudge Nakamoto was incinerated and replaced with the non-canonical player Denim Chilly.

Draft

Players

Prior to the start of the series, each team took turns selecting an existing player to be drafted to their team. Each team selected nine players for their Lineup, but only three for their Rotation (due to the best-of-3 format).

Released players and Coffee Cup guest team players were forbidden from being drafted. Each team was allowed to draft up to two deceased players from the Hall of Flame, and up to two players from the Shadows of Internet League Blaseball teams. All other players had to be selected from the active rosters of active teams at the time of the Showdown.

By guitar pick flip, the Tsushima Ghosts were given first choice. The order of selected draft players is listed below:
