COMMUNITY REPORTS

Background

The swarm, referred to as Bees or Hive collectively, is a leaderless collective. The last name Taswell refers specifically to a former queen of the nanobee swarm who, after abdicating and doing away with the title of queen and the monarchy, helped unify the swarm with other pollinators (normal bees, cyborg nanobot bees, and at least one nanofruitbat) using the nanobees psychic connection. They are now known as Caregiver Taswell by the swarm, and although they dislike the idea of a leadership moniker they have been assured that it is purely a title of endearment and respect indicating how deeply Bees cares for Taswell.

The exact ratios of different pollinators vary from moment to moment, as they keep independent sleep schedules in different locations and can split into smaller swarms to multi-task. But while individual members may sleep in various places such as honeycomb server farms for both organic and inorganic entities, or particularly comfy engine grilles, the swarm as a whole usually has a majority of members awake at any given moment, but there are definitely a lot of them, and they're all very friendly. Occasionally individual bees may get lost and fall asleep only to awake in strange places such as engine grills or nooks of stadiums during away games.

Bees originally functioned as a Plant Mechanic when they found the Core, and still helps coordinate pollination and insect conservation efforts within the Core to this day. Taswell first started attending Mechanics games as a fan, sneaking off to watch practices, they were eventually noticed by the rest of the team and when another player fell ill before a game they and the rest of the swarm were brought in as a last minute replacement, they've been on the team ever since.

Personality

Bees is easily excitable and distractible, often starting new trains of thought and detaching swarms to follow them mid-sentence. Occasionally they may be a bit scatter-brained if the swarm is trying to do too many things at once. Bees may sometimes freeze and become non-responsive when asked their opinion on something new for the first time as the collective votes on its preferences. Conversely Taswell is usually fairly nervous while members of the swarm more matter of fact. Taswell feels personally responsible for many events out of their control because they often have bad feelings before they occur, but usually can't figure out what is going to happen. Taswell doesn't know how or where they were made and Bees is suspiciously quiet on the question.

Bees prefers nonverbal communication such as telepathy, dancing, and scents. They have also been slowly learning English as a second language to communicate with those who are uncomfortable with telepathy. The Core Mechanics are well versed in understanding bees' dances and nonverbal communication and can occasionally pick up on certain scents, and Bees enjoys enormous fluidity communicating with Inez. When they do speak their "voice" is mostly projected through the vibrations of multiple swarm member and has a habit of interjecting long uhhhhh or ummmmm as the swarm members continue to vibrate while they pause.

Although the swarm often takes a humanoid shape, it takes many forms, often sporting multiple limbs or groups at once. When with friends Bees often will relax into a loose puddle shape of bots and insects, especially when relaxed or sleeping, although they take a more solidified form for familiarity when interacting with strangers or when playing blaseball. Seeing Bees melt into an amorphous gaseous swarm is a sign of a close relationship.

Personal Life

Like many Core Mechanics, Bees has a number of different hobbies:

Bees has a keen interest in both botany and robotany. In the Core plants of every -punk and bees is can often be seen cross-pollinating and experimenting with plant strains along with Jolene Willowtree to grow bed-plants, roadflowers, or wifi-emitting mushrooms in public parks.

They are a fan of speedrunning video games, and also love to make graphic novels, boasting a large comic collection. They keep an illustrated manuscript journal sketchbook. Taswell reportedly has the gift of prophecy, and channels it through their art. Before every Mechanics game, Bees draws an illustration that depicts the future ahead of them based on Taswells prophecies. However, Taswell cannot control the scope of their visions, and often reveals information about the future that is entirely useless to the Mechanics' blaseball strategy, though they have helped reduce the impact of at least three natural disasters.

Bees also takes shifts running Pasta//Sauce, the food truck formerly run by Lizzy Pasta and Ruffian Applesauce. Bees' shifts at the truck are particularly known for their honey glazed ham on honey bread with honey mustard and light honey mayonnaise sandwich, as well as their signature honey nut cheerio's, made with real honey and real aluminium.

Bee Wedding Bee Wedding

Bees Taswell and Inez Owens were wedded after season 15. In true Core tradition, both players built wedding bats to exchange. Before the ceremony Zoey Kirchner stole Bees' wedding bat, only returning it once the whole team had signed it.
